„Nach der Saison ist vor der Saison: Die Formel 1-Winterpause fiel in diesem Jahr besonders kurz aus, weswegen wir eine sehr arbeitsreiche Zeit hinter uns haben. Neben den üblichen Aufgaben wie dem Aufbau und dem Testen neuer Motoren auf den Prüfständen oder bei den Testfahrten kamen dieses Mal zahlreiche weitere Herausforderungen hinzu, denen wir uns stellen mussten.


Hierzu zählt insbesondere die Vorbereitung auf unser neues Partnerteam Williams F1. Bereits mit der Bekanntgabe dieser Kooperation im Juli 2011 begann die Abstimmungsarbeit, damit unser RS27-Achtzylinder perfekt in das neue Chassis von Williams F1 passt.


Zugleich nahmen wir Gespräche auf, wie wir das Traditionsteam während eines Grand Prix-Wochenendes an der Strecke bestmöglich unterstützen und wie die Strukturen auf beiden Seiten ideal miteinander verknüpft werden können.


Da wir diesen Prozess sehr früh angingen, präsentiert sich das Ergebnis sehr erfreulich – was sich auch in der hohen Zahl an Kilometern widerspiegelt, die Williams F1 bei den Winter-Testfahrten mit unseren Motoren abspulen konnte.


Einigen Aufwand haben wir auch darin investiert, auf die Änderungen des Reglements insbesondere im Hinblick auf die Achtzylinder zu reagieren. Dies ändert unsere Vorgehensweise an den Rennwochenenden zwar nicht fundamental, wirkt sich aber doch auf einige wichtige Prozesse aus – und beeinflusst natürlich die Feinabstimmung der elektronischen Motorsteu-erung.


Wir glauben, dass wir uns auf die Herausforderungen der neuen Formel 1-Saison 2012 bestmöglich vorbereitet haben – auch wenn Prognosen vor dem ersten Rennen in diesem Sport immer mit Vorsicht zu betrachten sind.



Aber wir sind mit den Distanzen, die unsere Partnerteams vor der Saison problemlos zurücklegen konnten, sehr zufrieden. Die Fahrbarkeit und Agilität unseres RS27, die sich im vergangenen Jahr als einer der Schlüssel für den Gewinn beider WM-Titel entpuppte, ist auch in dieser Saison gege-ben.“
