Calendar 2015 and new name for the Formula Renault 1.6 European Series

09.01.2015: The 2014 season is now well behind us, and the Formula Renault 1.6 European Series is presently

The 2014 season is now well behind us, and the Formula Renault 1.6 European Series is presently readying itself for the 2015 motorsport year.

In the meanwhile a fair amount of news can be revealed, not only relating to the calendar but also in the field of a further internationalisation, a new name and the arrival of new fresh Belgian talent in the single-seater class.

For young talents emanating amongst other from the karting world the Formula Renault 1.6 European Series is and remains the series to help them reach the top echelon.

The champagne celebrating the brand new champion Anton de Pasquale has hardly dried and a new fresh series of drivers are getting ready to do battle on the greatest European circuits. The further internationalisation is a conscious choice to allow drivers from the karting environment to prepare their further single-seater careers even better.

Also worth noting is that in 2015 the series takes on a new name: Formula Renault 1.6 European Series. This series is the first step in Renault’s pyramid heading up to F1.

Mick De Haas (CEO MdH Promoter):

“In 2014 our series already attracted drivers – 8 nationalities! –  and teams from Europe and even further afield, as proven by the promising Australian Anton de Pasquale. Hence the reason why we opted for a calendar with races throughout Europe on seven different circuits and what is of major importance is the fact that these are during weekends with an international flavour.

As such we will be competing twice during the European Le Mans Series, the top rated European endurance championship, as also during a round of the World Series by Renault and a round of the German VLN. Today young drivers are not only looking to make a career in single-seaters, but also in the endurance world so we are definitely on the right track. On top of that the Formula Renault 3.5 will also be in action during weekends of our series.”

In the meanwhile the Belgian RACB federation made it known that the winner of the 2014 Steering Wheel award, Dries Vanthoor, will be competing in the Formula Renault 1.6 European Series. Dries Vanthoor is the younger brother of threefold Blancpain GT champion Laurens Vanthoor, who had previously also been a part of the RACB National Team.

Dries Vanthoor (winner RACB Steering Wheel)

I’m obviously delighted with this Steering Wheel award. For every young driver to be a part of the RACB National Team is an exceptional opportunity. As from now I’ll be fully focussing my energy on preparing for the 2015 season which I will be doing with the KTR-team.”

It goes without saying that the Formula Renault 1.6 European Series will be offering up some great spectacle and top motorsport in 2015 with young fresh talent.
