TCR Asia driver quotes after Sepang races

14.03.2017: Sepang International Circuit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Rnd#1/2, 2017 TCR Asia Series - 10-12 March, 2017

Sepang International Circuit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Rnd#1/2, 2017 TCR Asia Series - 10-12 March, 2017

Kantadhee Kusiri - #2 Liqui Moly team Engstler Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR [Race 1

“I had a really good start and could open up a bit of a gap to P2. I have to thank my team for all their hard work - my first victory in TCR Asia, I’m very happy.”

Tin Sritrai - #9 Team Thailand Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR [Race 2]

“I got a better start, but my pace still wasn’t good enough because Moran was too good. With Kusiri at turn 14 I tried braking very late and turning in late, so it was my line and my turning point so he cannot overtake.

The car still has problems with the gearbox through sectors two and three and the high speed corners.”

Diego Moran - #32 Liqui Moly team Engstler Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR [Race 2]

“I had a very good start and was pushing every lap to try and make a difference, but the guys behind me were fighting and they were very fast, but I kept pushing and I managed to do it, I’m so happy. Ecuador is number one!”

WS Lai - #39 R Engineering Honda Civic TCR [Race 2]

“We had a few small issues over the weekend, but the team sorted them out one by one as the weekend went on, so we could make the podium with both cars in race two. The team is very new, people from different countries working together for the first time.

For me personally it was very challenging because I am the team owner, I’m am the funder, I am the driver and I need to put everyone together so there was a lot of pressure, but I’m very very happy with the result of our first event in TCR Asia. Hopefully soon I can just let the team do their thing and I can concentrate on getting better and faster as a driver!”

AK - #23 R Engineering Honda Civic TCR [Race 2]

“This (third) really made my day because in both races we started last, and in the first race I got second in class, and won my class in race two. It was even more special to finish on the podium in race two, I can’t believe it, I am so happy.

We are just an amateur team and still very new to TCR, so we have a lot to improve, but here this weekend the team did a great job, the car was fantastic and I can’t thank them enough. I think I still have a lot to learn, but I just try to do my best every lap, we practice a lot to make sure that we could come here and get a good result, and it worked!”

Jasper Thong - #5 Audi Hong Kong Audi RS3 LMS TCR [Race 1

“The race was great although I was hoping to finish higher up the order, but it’s a brand new car and we all did our best, but there’s plenty more to come.

I didn’t get the best start which allowed the faster cars to open up a gap which was hard to pull back, but I’m happy to be leading the Cup points after my first event and we will continue to improve as the season goes on.”
