Mikel Azcona (Zengő Motorsport, CUPRA Leon Competición): First position

“It was an amazing race. I love these tricky weather conditions and I think I’m really good driving [when it’s wet]. I said to myself ‘OK, I’m going to drive carefully over the first laps.’ Just not to have any contact. From that point on I went to overtake for some positions, and I felt really fast.


No contact, no damage to the car. I struggled a little bit with the others because there were defending really well. It’s amazing to finish the year off with a victory. I’ve been waiting for this for the whole year.”





Jean-Karl Vernay (Engstler Hyundai N Liqui Moly Racing Team, Hyundai Elantra N TCR): Second position


“Very good start, very good restart, but it’s a shame – we were much slower than the others and there was not much I could do. I could save bit of time because they were fighting but the speed on the straight… and they’re much lighter so that also helps with the tyre consumption.


Frustrating, but at least we finished on the podium on the last weekend [of the season]. The circuit is perfect. I love it.”

Frédéric Vervisch (Comtoyou Team Audi Sport, Audi RS 3 LMS): Third position


“I had a very poor start. We were P3. There was a lot of people around. We had no contact with anybody, so the start was quite clean. Gilles [Magnus] did all he could to defend from Jean-Karl [Vernay] but he was really strong in the beginning and he found the gap.


Gilles and myself swapped places but I didn’t feel I had a strong enough pace to attack. I the end we finished the race one the podium. I hoped for better points, but I think we were not quick enough.


Congratulations to Yann [Ehrlacher] for winning [the title] and a big, big thank you for Gilles. He deserved this podium and we needed for P2 in the championship.”
