Radical Sportscars, the world’s most prolific racing-sportscar manufacturer, is thrilled to announce its 2021 UK competition plans by today releasing provisional calendars for its Radical SR1 Cup and Radical Challenge championships.

In an exciting return to their roots, the Radical SR1 Cup and Radical Challenge events will once again take place side-by-side on the same weekends across all UK race events planned next year, strengthening the driver community and camaraderie that has been such a key feature of Radical single-marque racing since its inception over two decades ago.

All series competitors will also have the opportunity to experience additional bucket-list circuits and compete with their European peers at a series of 'Radical Festivals' that will take place in 2021 featuring current and past Grand Prix venues in great continental locations.

Commenting on the 2021 calendar, Radical CEO Joe Anwyll said: “Radical is pushing ahead confidently with its 2021 event plans, bringing the most thrilling circuits in the UK – not to mention Europe – together in a calendar that racers across our model range can enjoy. The positive response we had to SR1s and SR3s joining forces at Silverstone this year is something we’re going to build on next season, and both series are poised to be bolstered by new drivers not only from the UK, but from elsewhere in Radical’s international racer network too.

“Since its creation over 20 years ago, Radical racing has always been about making a ‘real’ sportscar racing experience accessible to both enthusiasts looking to start their racing career or hobby, as well as experienced national and club racers. By introducing the amazing new Radical SR10 into the Radical Challenge we are bringing back multi-class competition and strengthening this commitment by offering another rung in the Radical racing ladder - a new challenge for longstanding Radical competitors, some of whom have been racing with us for over a decade.”

2021 marks the ninth season for Radical’s entry-level UK championship, the SR1 Cup – a race series which gives racing novices and club racers alike a unique opportunity to enter the world of manufacturer-supported sports prototype racing at top tier circuits across the UK. On track, the Radical SR1 rivals the performance of GT4 cars costing three times as much.

Off track, at all events, Radical supports SR1 Cup owner-drivers with factory technical support, an at-track spares service, a hospitality experience for drivers and their friends and family, and even complete arrive-and-drive support by Radical’s Works Team and a number of Radical affiliated independent teams. It’s all designed to ensure SR1 Cup racers get to spend the most time on track, enjoying the thrill of racing!

For 2021, the Radical Challenge returns as Radical’s premier factory-supported European race series – now entering its 20th season. With multiple classes, spec racer regulations, and factory sealed engines, the Challenge is the perfect series for experienced racers looking for a championship that showcases pure driving talent and set-up skill – with the base car performance fully equalised amongst drivers. The popular SR3 1500 class generates lap times quicker than the 2020 BTCC field, while the new for 2021 Radical SR10 promises to be the fastest sportscar class in the UK.

2020 saw another highly competitive and closely-fought season with almost 30 drivers competing, despite Covid-19 travel restrictions that kept several over-seas drivers from taking their places on the grid. Next year the Radical Challenge will once again feature four current and former Grand Prix venues, with two – historic Silverstone and the much-celebrated Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium – also welcoming competitors in the Radical SR1 Cup, the former as a combined grid points-scoring SR1 Cup round.

These events will also form part of Radical’s ‘Festival’ series of events planned across Europe in 2021, featuring further current and past Grand Prix venues.

As motorsport bounces back from the global disruption of Covid-19, Radical will provisionally kick off its season in April at Oulton Park, before moving to Snetterton alongside British GT later in the month. The Radical paddock then travels south to Brands Hatch in May to contest the undulating, challenging Grand Prix layout.

From Brands Hatch the championships then travel across the Channel for its annual Spa-Francorchamps pilgrimage - always the most anticipated round of the year. SR1 Cup competitors can join in on the fun as Invitational entrants, and we expect a bolstered grid of European entrants as well, supported by Radical dealers from across Europe, including recently appointed dealers in Benelux, Scandinavia, and Eastern Europe.

After Spa it’s back to the current home of the British Grand Prix, Silverstone in August. Racers will enjoy a similar event format to that offered in 2020, where SR1s combined on the grid with Radical Challenge competitors – albeit this time, the SR1s will be playing for points!

The 2021 season comes to a head at Donington Park in September, again on the longer Grand Prix layout. Here we will crown our 2021 champions – could you be on the top step of the podium?

2021 will be a special year for Radical, fielding its newly updated and expanded family of high performance sportscars, and an exceptionally high calibre of racing on iconic tracks throughout Europe, North America and beyond. Radical’s relentless network expansion now sees 32 dealerships in five continents, organising and participating in over 42 race weekends per year, so there’s plenty of racing in store to satisfy the most avid racing fan.
