Sommertraining in Neuseeland steht unmittelbar bevor.

BMW ORACLE Racing beendete am vergangenen Freitag die America's Cup Trainings- und Testsaison 2006 in Valencia. Der Challenger of Record bereitet nun den Umzug ins Winter-Trainingsquartier nach Neuseeland vor.

Mit dem abschließenden Segeltag endete eine Saison, die im Februar begonnen hatte. Insgesamt verbrachte das Team vor Valencia mehr als 150 Tage auf dem Wasser. Darin eingeschlossen sind Performance-Training, Crew-Training, interne Rennen und die Regattatage der drei Louis Vuitton Acts im Jahr 2006. In der bedeutsamen letzten vollen Saison vor dem Louis Vuitton Cup 2007 hat das Team den Großteil der Zeit auf dem Wasser dazu genutzt, die neue Rennyacht USA 87 weiterzuentwickeln und auf deren innovativer Basis das Design für das zweite neue Boot zu entwerfen.

"Wir haben uns am Anfang des Jahres eine ehrgeizige Agenda erstellt und alle unsere Ziel erreicht", sagte CEO und Skipper Chris Dickson. "Die endgültige Bewährungsprobe steht zwar erst im kommenden Jahr an, aber wir sind zufrieden mit dem, was wir bis sechs Monate vor dem Beginn des Louis Vuitton Cup erreicht haben. Mit 150 Segeltagen und deutlich mehr als 500 Stunden Performancetests mit der neuen Yacht haben wir sogar die gesteckten Ziele übertroffen. Ausnahmslos jeder im Team hat in diesem Jahr sein Bestes gegeben, und wir sind stolz auf das in allen Bereichen gemeinsam Erreichte."

Zusätzlich zu den Trainings- und Testtagen hat das Team in den Louis Vuitton Acts 10, 11 und 12 in Valencia 37 Rennen bestritten und dabei zum Saisonauftakt den Act 10 gewonnen. Außerdem wurden fast 100 weitere Wettfahrten in anderen Regatten gesegelt. BMW ORACLE Racing gewann die Trofeo Challenge, den Portugal Match Cup, die Trieste Challenge, die Spanish Open und den German Sailing Grand Prix, bei dem America's Cupper zum Einsatz kamen.

Auch wenn in Valencia bis Anfang kommenden Jahres nicht mehr gesegelt wird, ist die Arbeit in der Team Base im Port America's Cup noch nicht erledigt. Das Shore Team begann damit, den Umzug ins Winterquartier nach Neuseeland vorzubereiten, wo dank der Lage auf der Südhalbkugel der Sommer beginnt.

Die Neuseeland-Saison beginnt für BMW ORACLE Racing mit den New Zealand Match Racing Championships (22. bis 26. November), an denen das Team mit zwei Crews teilnehmen wird. Ende des Monats beginnt dann das Segeltraining auf der USA 71, die im Anschluss an den German Sailing Grand Prix verschifft wurde und mittlerweile in Auckland angekommen ist. Nach den Weihnachtsferien wird das Team das Training auf dem Hauraki Gulf fortsetzen.

Unterdessen geht die Konstruktion der zweiten Rennyacht der 2007er Generation in den USA weiter. Wie die USA 87 wird auch das neue Boot in Anacortes in der Nähe von Seattle, Washington gebaut.
