During qualifying ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps, both Sauber F1 Team drivers were unable to make it into Q2. Felipe Nasr almost made it into the second qualifying session, finishing in P17, while Marcus Ericsson ended up in P20.


After already having issues with the power unit in FP3, Ericsson’s Sauber C35-Ferrari again had a lack of power in qualifying, which especially on this highspeed-track, is a disadvantage.


The Swede will also get a ten place grid penalty for using the sixth turbo charger. Nevertheless, Nasr and Ericsson are confindent about making up positions during the race.





Marcus Ericsson (car number 9):
Sauber C35-Ferrari (Chassis 04/Ferrari)

Qualifying: 20th in Q1 (1:49.071 min / supersoft tyres)

3rd practice: 21st (1:51.319 min / supersoft tyres / 5 laps)



“It was a disappointing qualifying for me. We already had issues with the power unit in the morning. We managed to fix it for the end of FP3, so I was at least able to go out for a couple of laps.


 Then in qualifying I had a lack of power again, and, therefore, I lost lap time, especially on the straights. We need to investigate and sort these issues out for tomorrow.”





Felipe Nasr (car number 12):
Sauber C35-Ferrari (Chassis 03/Ferrari)

Qualifying: 17th in Q1 (1:48.949 min / supersoft tyres)

3rd practice: 19th (1:50.420 min / supersoft tyres / 13 laps)



“I was close to making it into Q2. I put in a decent lap at the end of Q1, but I just missed some lap time in sector three, as I struggled with the grip, especially on the rear, in the last corner.


On the first try my lap time was deleted because I went on the inside kerb exceeding the track limits in Turn 4. On my second and last try I was able to improve, but it was not enough for Q2. It will be a long race tomorrow; there is lot that can happen.”
