Silverware shared out during Radical's Night of Champions 20.01.2020: Radical Sportscars honoured the standout performers of its British championships with a host of awards handed out to drivers, teams and supporting staff during a glittering celebration of the 2019 season.

Radical Sportscars honoured the standout performers of its British championships with a host of awards handed out to drivers, teams and supporting staff during a glittering celebration of the 2019 season.



The leading British manufacturer held its annual Night of Champions evening at the world-famous Belfry Hotel & Resort last Saturday, January 18, with this year’s event being the largest in recent history thanks to a record attendance of over 120 drivers, team members, series partners and officials.



During the evening the champions of both Radical’s entry level SR1 Cup and class-leading Radical Challenge categories were celebrated, and key figures within the Radical community were also recognised through a series of special awards.



Hosted by prolific motorsport commentator Alan Hyde and attended by senior members of the global Radical management team and key sponsors alike, the ceremony recognised the achievements and personal contributions that made the 2019 season a shining example of British motorsport.



The Radical Challenge – the firm’s premier British championship, which caters for the best-selling SR3 model – featured a tight and unpredictable three-way battle for honours, with Dominik Jackson securing the title in a hard-fought season finale. The RAW Motorsports driver collected his overall champion’s trophy. Second-placed man Jerome de Sadeleer’s award was accepted by his 360 Racing engineer Nick Dunn, alongside third-placed driver Jac Constable, who enjoyed a stellar maiden season of Radical racing with the Fix Auto with Hart GT team to complete the top three.



Lanan Racing pair Chris and Daniel Headlam were crowned Team Challenge class winners. The second place trophy for Amir Feyzulin and Anton Zakharov was collected by Richard Minarik of the Radical Works Team, while Full Throttle Motorsport duo, Nick Hull and Richard Avery collected their award for third in the category.



In the SR1 Cup, Shane Stoney enjoyed a stunning maiden season, claiming every race win but one in his Quattro Motorsport-run car. His achievement was recognised with both his overall championship trophy, and also Radical’s Outstanding Achievement Award, which was presented to him by company CEO, Joe Anwyll.



There were further special awards for SR1 Cup competitors, too, with championship runner-up Chris Short also being named as the Most Improved Driver of the campaign. To complete a hat-trick of silverware, Short also took home his award for winning the Fangio Trophy category, for SR1 racers aged 40 and over. Mark Tranter collected his Rookie Cup champion silverware.



Alongside the main championship presentations, Radical also recognised the contribution of a number of outstanding individuals with a series of special awards.



The Drivers’ Award, given to a member of the paddock for outstanding contribution and decided by Radical’s panel of professional racers, went to RAW Motorsports engineer Aaron Bates, who has been a member of the Radical paddock for over a decade, and recently oversaw a Challenge title double as Dominik Jackson’s engineer.



Matt Jones took home the Privateer’s Award, recognising his efforts in preparing and running his own SR1.



Jac Constable doubled his trophy tally by being named as the recipient of the Clerk’s Award for outstanding sportsmanship throughout the season. It was a solid night for his Hart GT team also, with squad head Nick Hart receiving the Scrutineer's Trophy for epitomising the spirit and camaraderie that is such an element of Radical racing.



The Technical Award went to 360 Racing’s Darren ‘Daz’ Winter, who went over and above during 2019 in his efforts to support the operation of the team and was always on-hand with advice to others.



Radical Challenge championship partner Anglo-American Oils also handed out its Fastest Lap Award for the outright quickest driver of the year, with Jerome de Sadeleer the winner.



Finally, the latest inductee to the Radical Hall of Fame was announced. Designed to recognise long-standing achievement and commitment to Radical’s motorsport family, company directors Andreas Zielke and Jan Osterloh took much pleasure in announcing John MacLeod as the newest member of the very prestigious club. MacLeod was inducted in light of his near decade-long Radical racing career, which has spanned championships from the original Clubman’s Cup through to the European Masters and most recently fourth place in the 2019 Radical Challenge.





Radical Regional Manager UK Carly Latcham said: “The Radical Night of Champions is always a very special event, bringing together the great and good of our 2019 championships and celebrating the achievements of so many teams, drivers and individuals who helped to make the season so memorable.



“Being held in January, it caps off last season brilliantly, but also acts as a fitting precursor to what should be a spectacular 2020 for Radical, where we’re fully dedicated to making our year bigger and better thanks to a refreshed SR1 Cup calendar and a new, wider-ranging class format for the Challenge. Next year’s Night of Champions will certainly be another to look forward to.”



The 2020 Radical motorsport year will get underway with the first official group test of the year, taking place at Donington Park on March 20. The Radical SR1 Cup gets the racing season underway in support of the British GT Championship at Oulton Park on April 11, while the Radical Challenge begins at Donington Park on April 18/19.
