A stunning Thomas Chareyre was the main protagonist of the awaited first Grand Prix of the 2011 FIM SuperMoto World Championship, which took place today at the Busca Kart Planet. The talented French rider gave no opportunity to rivals to overcome him in fact he was the leader of all the three motos.

The defending World Champion was followed by Davide Gozzini and Thierry Van Den Bosch in the first heat and by Mauno Hermunen and Massimo Beltrami in the next one. Race 3 saw the TM Factory Racing rider finishing in front of rival Hermunen and his older brother Adrien.

The first round of the UEM European Championship was won by a strong Massimiliano Porfiri of Italy.

S1

2010 World Champion Thomas Chareyre faced a fantastic and promising first GP of the season. The French put his best foot forward in yesterday’s time practice through the fastest time of 1:21.827, and today he secured the Superpole. The member of the TM Factory Racing Team experienced a solitary Race 1 by opening a 5 second gap over rivals and collected satisfying results even in the second heat after a quick battle for the top spot with the PMR H20 rider Van Den Bosch. The French Champion was on gas in the final moto as well, where he prevailed once more after facing Hermunen.

The podium of the Grand Prix of Italy went also to the Husqvarna Factory challenger Hermunen, second overall after a prudent fifth position in Race 1 and two deserved runner up spots in the other heats. Now the Finnish is second in the World Championship, 15 points away from the leader.

The battle for the third spot overall was hard as Italians Ivan Lazzarini and Davide Gozzini battled it out to put their names on it. After Race 2 the KTM 747 Motorsport fellow was the favorite but his results, a second and 11th position in the first heats and a 5th place in the final one, did not allow him to be on the Italian podium.

On the other hand, compatriot Ivan Lazzarini made it and finished third overall after a constant recover in all the three motos. The HM Honda Racing man collected a 6th, a 5th and a 4th position so he finished in front of Gozzini. The two are divided by just one point so the battle will be on again at the next GP.

Many other challengers starred at the Busca Kart Planet. First of all the French Alexis Marie Luce, fifth overall, Massimo Beltrami who was sixth, French Adrien Chareyre and Sylvain Bidart. The latter were 7th and 8th.

Series leader Thomas Chareyre is dominating the standings courtesy of 75 points, while second classified Hermunen has 60 points and is followed by Ivan Lazzarini with 49 points.
