A new chapter in TCR's successful history opens this week in Interlagos, with the kick off of TCR South America championship's inaugural season; an event that marks the first ever appearance of the TCR cars in a region where Touring Car competition is hugely popular.
The new series will be run over eight race meetings, three in Brazil and Argentina, one in Uruguay and Chile, providing a mix between sprint and endurance races.
The format of the event adopts a WTCR-style Qualifying session split in Q1 (20 minutes for all drivers), Q2 (10 minutes for the top-12 in Q1) and Q3 (one lap for the top-5 in Q2).
Six events will feature two back-to-back sprint races, the first of 55 km and the second of 65 km with the first top-ten in Qualifying reversed on the grid.
Two events, at Curitiba and Buenos Aires, will feature one 160km race, with the cars shared by two drivers who must be at the wheel for a minimum of 30 minutes.
A dozen entries will take part in the Interlagos event, among them are the two Hyundai Elantra N cars run by the Scuderia FJ that has not unveiled the names of its drivers yet. With Roy Block committed to race in the clashing IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge at Watkins Glen, the PropCar Racing Team has called the 2017 TC champion of Pirelli World Challenge Paul Holton to drive one of his Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce cars alongside Fabio Casagrande.
