Walker Racing and Alex Tagliani on Front Row for Long Beach

20.04.2008: Walker Racing and Alex Tagliani on Front Row for Long Beach

Walker Racing and Alex Tagliani (No.15 CEC Wheels) proved once again they were ready to give it their all this weekend for the 34th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the final Champ Car race, as they say farewell to Champ Car and their loyal supporters, the fans.

The weekend has turned out to be flawless for the Walker Racing clan and Tagliani, who had another solid day. It started this morning’s session, as the Canadian posted the fastest time of 1:07.252. He followed it with another sensational qualifying session, clocking a time of 1:07.084 seconds, putting him on the front row for tomorrow’s race.

Walker Racing will hit the pavement tomorrow morning at 9:05 a.m. PST, for one last Champ Car warm-up, and then they will be back out on track for the final race of Champ Car as the green flag drops at 1:00 p.m. ET. For more updates on the team please visit www.walkerracing.com.

What they had to say…

Alex Tagliani (No.15 CEC Wheels): "It’s great to drive such a quick car and doing it under these circumstances and with Walker Racing is fantastic. It has definitely pumped everybody’s morale and I’m enjoying every second of it. It was a good session for us and we made some major improvements from yesterday on the Bridgestone red alternate tires.

I think it was a good choice, because it gave us an indication of where we need to go to improve the car. The car was much quicker. We are so happy to be on the front row. The guys did an amazing job and I just have to thank them again."

Derrick Walker: "I don’t think the weekend could have gone any better if we had tried, but I guess that’s the point, everybody tried and we got the results. Front row is a tremendous achievement, given where we started just a week ago. We picked up the pieces for Long Beach with Alex coming in at the last minute and he jumped in the car and did a great job.

We are very happy with the way things are going and it really is a tribute to the team and to Alex. In spite of all the setbacks that have come across our way over the last few weeks, there is still a desire and the talent is still there to do well. Tomorrow’s race will be a different story, but I’m quietly confident we will do well.
