Hungaroring Q & A with Alexander Rossi: “We are working hard every day to improve.”

21.07.2015: The Hungaroring in Hungary is the venue for the sixth round of the 2015 GP2 Series and Racing Engineering

The Hungaroring in Hungary is the venue for the sixth round of the 2015 GP2 Series and Racing Engineering driver Alexander Rossi arrives at the circuit lying in second place in the Drivers’ Championship after taking second and fourth at the Silverstone round  three weeks ago which allowed him to reduce the gap on Championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne.

Below Alexander looks forward to this weekend in Hungary:

You had a fantastic weekend in Silverstone, two thrilling races with good starts, consistent race pace, bold overtaking manoeuvres and good tyre management. Did this weekend give you an extra bit of motivation for the upcoming races?

Yes, for sure it was a very good weekend, our best so far this year. It was a nice confidence boost for the whole team after a difficult weekend in Austria and we will be looking to carry this momentum forward.

You seem to be very confident and after your great results in Silverstone, do you have big expectations for the Hungary Grand Prix? Could it finally be the win?

I hope so. We have been close many times this year and we have finished on every step of the podium except the top. As for Hungary our goal is the same as every weekend; to score as many points as possible in both races. We are not approaching this weekend any differently than the others.

Poor grip levels, a bumpy surface, the necessity for high downforce settings, slow corners and hard to overtake, all these characterises the Hungaroring. However the grip level changes during the weekend makes the perfect set-up a moving target, where do you see the main technical challenges of this track?

All of these things are true but I think it is the heat that makes this track the most difficult. Managing the tyres will be extra important this weekend, as well as determining the best strategy due to how difficult it is to overtake around this track.

With that being said, qualifying is also extra important this weekend so we will be focused on optimising that session as much as possible.

We are almost halfway through the season and you are the only driver to have scored in every race and you are currently second in the Drivers’ Championship. How would you summarise the season thus far and what can we still expect?

It has been a very good start to the season and there are a lot of things to be happy about; however the person leading the championship has done an exceptional job and we have a big gap to overcome.

We are working hard every day to improve as we look to make the second half of the season even better and hopefully we will achieve our first race win very soon.
