25.09.2007: Jarvis aiming for strong start to A1 Team GBRís title hopes

Britainís Oliver Jarvis heads into this weekendís opening round of the 2007/08 A1GP World Cup of Motorsportô in Zandvoort, Netherlands, determined to start A1 Team Great Britainís season with strong points finishes in Sundayís Sprint and Feature races at the famous Dutch venue.

The 23 year old scored Team GBRís first victory in A1GP when he won the Feature Race in Mexico City last April, and he is aiming to maintain the teamís impressive performance which saw it score three wins and three second places from the final six events of last season.

The Cambridgeshire driver represents one of Great Britainís most promising international stars, the winner of the 2005 Formula Renault UK Championship and McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award having gone on to finish runner run in the 2006 British Formula 3 Championship Ė and he currently lies third in the prestigious All Japan F3 series.

This weekendís event is not Jarvisís first taste of A1GP power at the Zandvoort track, however, having been Team GBRís Rookie Driver twelve months ago. Last year Team GBR qualified sixth in Zandvoort, race driver Darren Manning going on to finish fifth in the Sprint Race and seventh in the Feature Race.

The Dutch circuit attracted a sell-out crowd, the nature of the track and changing weather conditions helping to produce one of the most exciting events of the season. The 2.684 mile circuit is technically demanding, but also offers one of the best overtaking opportunities in racing on the run down to the famous Tarzan hairpin at the end of the long pit straight.

Oliver Jarvis: "Having taken part in the Rookie Session at Zandvoort last year, I have an idea of the demands and complexity of the race circuit. Itís going to be a very physical race and the large possibility of rain throughout the weekend will add that extra element.

The main aim is to get strong points finishes in both races. Of course Iíd be delighted to get the teamís first win of the season, but think itís important that we have consistence from the outset this year and go for the title."

Team Principal Katie Clements is hoping that Team GBRís promising showing in pre-season testing, combined with Oliver Jarvisís determination to start the series on a high note, will demonstrate the teamís capability to challenge for this yearís World Cup of Motorsport;

"We have already proven ourselves to be highly competitive in seasons one and two in A1GP, finishing third in the series both times, so naturally our aim is push for the title. In Oliver we have an outstanding young talent who has already proven himself to be a winner, and with the equally strong but even more experienced Robbie Kerr sharing driving duties during the course of the season we have a terrific line-up. The series is going to be the most competitive yet, but we are relishing the challenge."

Sundayís Sprint race starts at 11:00 local time (10:00 BST Sunday) with the Feature race starting at 15:00 local time (1400 BST Sunday).

Sky Sports Xtra will broadcast all the action from the Netherlands from 1430 on Saturday 28 September and from 1300 on Sunday 29 September - please check www.skysports.com for further details.
