A1 Team Switzerland wraps up positive test prior start of third season

30.08.2007: A1 Team Switzerland wraps up positive test prior start of third season

A1 Team Switzerland wrapped up a positive two-day test at Silverstone on Wednesday, one month before the new season kicks off at Zandvoort (The Netherlands), on 30 September 2007. On the final day the team fielded two drivers: Sebastien Buemi and Tom Dillmann who drove in the morning and afternoon respectively. Neel Jani was not present as he had to attend his next Champ Car race in Assen (NL).

Between them, Buemi and Dillman completed 81 laps. Buemi's quickest was in 1.10.311 from 47 laps while Dillmann covered 34 laps, his best in 1.12.520.

Max Welti, team principal, A1 Team Switzerland commented, "It was important for the team to test three drivers after a long summer break. It's been an important test to prepare for the first race of the season in one month's time. As a newly formed team we've got through a lot of work over these two days. It's been a positive two days and we learned a lot about the potential of the car the new team is working together well and we are confident heading to the first race with today's third best time."

Sebastien Buemi commented, "I am pleased to be in-line with yesterday's times. Third fastest in the morning is a good result, showing that the team is on the right track. We worked well and that is a good sign for the season ahead of us. I have lost a bit of time with tyres.

Possibly the racing conditions were different with a higher temperature today than yesterday. The car was understeering a lot. We have not quite identified the problems today, but at least we are still at an early stage and can work on this.

Overall it's been a good day and the season's first race will be thrilling. Now, I am off to Nuerburgring as we are testing for my next race on Sunday."

Tom Dillmann commented, "I wish the test would have lasted longer. Everything was new to me and it was a big step forward from F3. I have discovered the track on the PlayStation and had never experienced it in real life. Usually it is not too difficult to learn a new track, and a matter of roughly five laps. It gets more complicated when you have to adapt to a new car and a new track.

On the car everything is new for me from more horsepower than F3 to gear levers on the back of the wheel, not manual like in F3. I feel that the more laps I was able to do, the most confident I got. Overall I had a good day and that helped us go through the entire team program to progress."

The A1 Grand Prix season kicks off at Zandvoort on Sunday on 30 September 2007.
