29.08.2007: A1 Team Switzerland shows power for official tests ...

... before the start of its third 2007- 2008 season

Team A1 Switzerland is back on the scene with drivers Neel Jani and Sebastien Buemi in action today at Silverstone for the annual Silverstone test session ahead of the start of the third A1 GP season. Tom Dillmann will share the duties with Sebastien Buemi in the second and last day of testing, tomorrow.

The track was dry and the weather rather sunny sky with a few scattered clouds towards the end of the day and the temperature dropped slightly in the afternoon. Over the course of the morning and afternoon sessions Neel Jani covered more 68 laps.

In the morning session Neel Jani clocked the third fastest time of 1.10.909 and covered 28 laps. In the afternoon his work continued improving the team's time to 1.10.673.

Sebastien Buemi took over late in the afternoon as Neel Jani left to rejoin the Champcar World Series racing this weekend for the twelvth round of the 2007 Champ Car Wolrd Series season (Red Bull Gulfstream PKV Racing) in Assen (NL).

Max Welti, Team Principal commented: "Team A1 Switzerland is ready to go for the third consecutive season and will test three drivers doing this Silverstone session: Neel Jani, Sebastien Buemi and Tom Dillmann, a young fast Red Bull driver. Neel and Sebastien have worked very hard during the first day of the testing session. It is quite clear that they are both very strong mentally and very experienced. The team structure changed from last year and with a few adjustments everything will work perfectly for the first race of the season in Zandvort end of September.

The Team A1 Switzerland's results today are a good start for a positive third year and I definitely feel that we have the potential for an excellent and successful time. On a different note, I would like to say how much I support the efforts of the A1 GP Series organizers to promote new environmental technologies and to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions being released by our racing cars into the environment.

Neel Jani commented about his day: "It was hard work to learn the car again. But I am really pleased to be back with A1 Team Switzerland again and to start the third season with the team Switzerland. I have not forgotten too much how the car handles.

The car moves so much more than the cars I am used to work with these days. It is just so different. I needed a few laps to readjust. Too bad I won't see more of it as I have to fly to Assen to re-join my team."

Neel added, "In the practice session in the morning there was a lot of traffic and I never found the right slot to go out on a clean lap. In the afternoon, it worked well traffic wise. I worked mainly on getting the car fine tuned. The car seems well prepared for the season.

There is little to change on the set-up in my opinion. However, I would have liked to do some more laps before handing over to Sebastien Buemi. That would have been useful to our program for the rest of the season. Overall, I would say it was a really useful test and I am very satisfied on how things worked.

Of course, you can say that things can always go better than they have been. But I am pleased to have clocked the fastest time of the afternoon session while I was out there, even if we finished third fastest by the end. This shows the potential of the team for the rest of the year."

Sebastien Buemi concluded:" I feel all right for my first laps in the new season. The car behaved well, and I was able to find last year's feelings and confidence. At this point, everything is possible. But the times from Neel in the morning are very encouraging and show we are on the right track for a successful season.

Until now, I have  only driven one hour today and covered 30 laps and the temperature was cooler late afternoon. I will make up tomorrow and get more of running time on this track that I do not know well. I am certain that weather permitting and on fresh tires I will progress. Let's see how the morning goes for us. I am very confident."
