A1 TEAM GBR aiming for P1 at Silverstone test

23.08.2007: A1 TEAM GBR aiming for P1 at Silverstone test

A1 Team Great Britain will be back on track at Silverstone next week as the outfit finalises preparations for its assault on the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. The British team will join over 20 other nations on track for the first official A1GP test of the season.

With 3 wins and 3 second places from the final six races of last season momentum is with the team as the countdown to the opening race of the season in Zandvoort Park, Holland, on September 30th continues.

Robbie Kerr and Oliver Jarvis will both drive at the test and the team’s new rookie driver will be officially announced. As well as preparing for the new season, the team will also use the test to announce the driver choice for rounds 1 & 2 of the championship at Zandvoort and Brno.

Kerr and Jarvis will both be aiming to add to their tally of A1GP victories in the new season and a chance to run on home soil presents an ideal opportunity to assess the opposition. In both seasons of A1GP the quickest team at Silverstone has gone on to take the title, so P1 on the timesheets will lay down a marker that will be hard to ignore. The test will also offer free admission to the public, giving the teams’ many fans a chance to see all the action.

Tony Clements, A1 Team GBR Seatholder: "We’re very much looking forward to the 2007-08 A1GP season launching next week at the official pre-season test at Silverstone circuit. A1 Team GBR’s main objective will be for the drivers and team members to reacquaint themselves with the car and each-other.

By essentially retaining the same crew and drivers as last season, I believe the British entry has a very strong package ahead of the forthcoming season. Our unanimous aim is to continue with the strong form shown in the last 4 rounds of last season and improve on third place in the Championship".

Oliver Jarvis: "I can’t wait to drive the British A1GP car again especially since I think this season will prove to be the most competitive yet. With such limited testing, the official pre-season test is obviously an extremely important chance for both the team and the drivers to reacquaint ourselves with the car, and use the opportunity to work on both qualifying and long distance runs in order to continue our previously strong run of results.

The test last year proved to be a very good indicator of teams’ competitiveness so A1 Team GBR will be looking to have a strong test but the main focus will certainly be working on the set up in anticipation of the season opener at Zandvoort".

Robbie Kerr: "I’m looking forward to the pre-season test next week and the A1GP season beginning once again. It’s going to be great to get back in the A1GP car, particularly after the incredible experience driving at last seasons’ finale at Brands Hatch, and at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June, which was also a fantastic event.

Obviously the teams’ objectives are to win the Championship, and that will be our main focus during the test too".
