A1 Team Lebanon welcomes new A1GP Calendar

02.08.2007: A1 Team Lebanon welcomes new A1GP Calendar

A1 Team Lebanon welcomes today’s announcement of the calendar for the third season of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. Eleven events held in ten countries from the end of September this year through to the beginning of May 2008 will form the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport 2007/08 season.

The Lebanese team has competed in the first two seasons and will continue to represent the Middle Eastern country and the wider Arab world in the 22 races that comprise the new calendar.

The Series puts Lebanon on an international stage of top level sport, with strong audience’s trackside at each event and millions of global television viewers for each race weekend.

The calendar includes many countries which are heavily populated with the Arab diasporas including Australia, South Africa and the UK. In these countries as well as the other seven the team visits, A1 Team Lebanon know that they will always been given a very warm welcome, having established themselves as one of the most popular teams in the Series. The third season of the A1GP Series will start, as it did in 2006, in Zandvoort, Netherlands.

Over 100,000 tickets have already been sold for the race weekend on 29/30 September, with the Dutch fans ready to support their home nation in the Series opener. Brno, Czech Republic retains its place as the second event with Zhuhai, China as the third and the only new venue for this season.

A return to the impressive Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, one of two tracks visited by the Formula One championship, follows the first of the Asian rounds (venue to be confirmed). The Series has a break across the New Year, resuming with events in New Zealand and Australia.

Moving across to Durban for the South African event, the A1GP Series then heads to Mexico City before returning to Asia for the second of the two Chinese weekends, at Shanghai, another F1 track, and finally the Series finale at Brands Hatch in the UK.

Tameem Auchi, Seat Holder, A1 Team Lebanon says of the new calendar, "This winter tour of motor racing gives Lebanon the opportunity to promote itself on a global platform, in the highly competitive and wide- reaching A1GP Series.

We’re one of the smallest countries represented, we do not have the depth of motorsport heritage that many other nations have, but each weekend we race with pride for all the Arabs around the world."

The full A1GP calendar comprises:

30 September 2007 A1GP Zandvoort, The Netherlands

14 October 2007 A1GP Brno, Czech Republic
