ProSpeed Competition out for revenge on French soil

01.10.2008: ProSpeed Competition out for revenge on French soil

FIA GT – Round 8: Nogaro - France

Three weeks after the seventh round of the FIA GT championship in Brno, the next FIA meeting is on the programme. The FIA GT, including the FIA GT championship as also the European FIA GT3 championship are heading off down to the Nogaro circuit in the south of France on 4th and 5th October.

The main change for ProSpeed Competition is the arrival of the Australian Porsche driver Alex Davison. He will replace Emmanuel Collard in the Belgian Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, the latter driving for Porsche in the Petit Le Mans. In addition Franz Lamot, following his absence in Brno, will be back on the scene teaming up with Rudi Penders.

Emmanuel Collard, the regular team mate of Richard Westbrook in the FIA GT, will not be present for his home race; however the Australian Davison is undoubtedly a strong replacement. Davison’s racing career started in Formula Ford, but he was soon competing in the German and Australian Carrera Cup and the Porsche Supercup. This season he finished second in the LMS at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Team Felbermayr-Proton, and the ALMS was also on his agenda. Davison will enjoy his debut in FIA GT at Nogaro.

Alex Davison: "I’m pleasantly surprised to be able to compete for ProSpeed Competition and I’m looking forward to the race. Unfortunately I don’t know the circuit which means that I’ll need to adapt to it during the free practice sessions. Luckily I have enough experience with the car to be in a position to adapt pretty quickly. My ambition is to produce a strong result together with Richard and to help him and the team achieve a good deal in the championship."

Richard Westbrook, together with the absent Collard is presently third in the drivers’ championship with still a good chance of becoming vice champion. In the team championship ProSpeed Competition are now in fourth place and here again a second place is a realistic ambition. For the other GT2-combination of the Belgian team, namely the Finns Markus Palttala and Mikael Forsten, the assignment is to score as many points as possible for the team and even aim at heading up into the top-10.

"I’m fully confident that we’re going for victory this coming weekend", an ambitious Rudi Penders remarked. "We were already pretty strong in Brno, but bad luck put a stop to that. This is why we’re out for a resounding revenge in France."

Following the difficult race in Germany and the Czech Republic in GT3, ProSpeed Competition are hoping to turn the tide this coming weekend. Stéphane Lémeret sums up the present situation in the FIA GT3: "It won’t be that obvious taking into consideration the present situation in GT3.

The ‘Balance of Power’ is not fully on an even footing, as proven by the exaggerated handicap inflicted on the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S. The car has the smallest engine capacity of the entire field and is then given an air intake limiter, when this is not the case for that of the Dodge Viper, with an engine capacity twice that of the Porsche.

The difference definitely comes to light when accelerating out of a bend. This handicap is also noticeable in the starting positions which are not that fantastic, resulting in the Porsche drivers having to carve their way through the field, an operation not without risks, as proven by the numerous accidents of the various Porsche drivers up until now. The outcome is that our season has been on a minor key.

Regarding the coming weekend, Nogaro is a difficult track, which I don’t really know that well. But I’m convinced that we’ll do everything in our power to score as well as possible."
