Atlantic Racing Team and Ollie Milroy at the F1 in Sao Paulo

06.11.2008: Atlantic Racing Team and Ollie Milroy at the F1 in Sao Paulo

A larger than normally expected spectator crowd for the last two rounds of the Formula BMW Americas awaited Brit Ollie Milroy when he started the #66 car with Canadian Atlantic Racing Team of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

"I have been at many supporting F1 events but had never seen such an enthusiastic motorsport crowd as at the Interlagos track in Sao Paulo. I don't know how many people were at the 3 day event but when I saw the near to capacity full stands I just felt really good to be here, after a nightmare of transportation problems, escalating costs to fly the car and equipment to Brazil.

But at the end and with the help of the FBMW organization and their transportation associates, all was well" stated Ingo Strackerjan, Team Manager. "It was great and an honour to have Ollie Milroy with us as a guest driver on "loan" from Motaworld - this young driver has grown up, matured and learned a tremendous amount about racing, the car, the mechanics and what real team effort is all about.

It is of no shame to say that we missed out on the first practice; we just tried something which in the end was wrong but it also gave us some more needed data. Qualifying went much better but was haunted by some small set-up issues, all in all it gave Ollie 8th and 6th starting places.

The first race was a situation best to describe as "in the wrong place at the right time", which did cost Ollie the chance and opportunity to be on the podium. A hit from behind, bending the upper suspension, meant that the car was basically tracking slightly sideways and was a handful to keep on the track. An 8th place was all what could be achieved.

The second race started actually better - P6 on the grid, excellent start from Ollie - and then...on the third lap the two FBMW Americas Rookie runner ups decided to fight it out in front of Ollie, he was then in P4, fighting for 3rd, one of the Rookies contacted the other, went sideways forcing Ollie to turn away from the track and slow his #66 car down, thereby avoiding the car now parked in the middle of the track.

The result - the following competitors saw the opportunity and passed not only the crashed car but also Ollie, then in P8. After a heroic fight with ex-Atlantic Racing Team guest driver Picho Toledano, Ollie ended his first Interlagos experience in P6."

The next and final race for Atlantic Racing Team will be the Grand Prix of Macau in China on November 16th with Gabby Chaves, before going to the FBMW World Finals in Mexico City on November 5th. For more information on the FBMW Pacific and Americas Series please visit  or
