FIA GT3 – Round 6: Dubai

Only two weeks after the FIA GT season’s finale in San Luis (Argentina), the FIA GT3 European Championship will end its season in Dubai, Middle East. Prospeed Competition runs two Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S in the European Championship, one for Stéphane Lémeret - David Loix and one for Franz Lamot – Rudi Penders. Both Belgian driver pairings will end their season as well in Dubai.

The Belgian team aims for a good overall classification in Dubai, but could also do very well in the final standings of the Porsche Manufacturer Cup. "It has been a difficult season in GT3, but a satisfying last weekend and a strong final result, or even a victory, in the Porsche Manufacturer Cup would be a great relief for us. But winning the Cup depends on many things, so we remain realistic", explains Rudi Penders.

Rudi Penders could still win the Porsche Manufacturer Cup (a competition among all Porsche drivers) and ProSpeed Competition might still make in to the top-5 of the FIA GT3 team championship.

"Our season in GT3 started in a perfect way with two podia in Silverstone", continues Rudi Penders. "But the rest of the season was pretty difficult and beating the Aston,

Corvette or Ford GT was almost impossible. The difference between the nr 3 and 4 in the team championship is as important as the gap between the number 4 and 10, with the top 3 all being teams running an Aston, Corvette or Ford GT. All the other cars are more or less equal, but those three are in a league of their own. In Dubai all cars except the Aston, Corvette and Ford GT, will be 30 kilogram lighter, which might re-balance the performances a bit."

"And we will do everything possible to perform strongly", says Stéphane Lémeret. "I also had a very difficult season and on this track, one I like very much, we will try to end the season on a high and finish the last races of the year, where ProSpeed started: on the podium! With a Porsche that is 30 kilos lighter and on a track where I already realized a podium finish with ProSpeed Competition in the Dubai 24 Hours, it should all come together."

The end of a season also means an occasional goodbye and that’s we what we will say to Franz Lamot in Dubai. "That’s correct", tells the former Belcar GTB champion. "I will never do a complete season or full series again. I have had a wonderful time in motor sport, starting in the regional Flemish Touring Cup, with titles in Belcar and races FIA GT, FIA GT3 and LMS.

But the management of my company is now really more important and it is a priority to me. I might still do some occasional outings, f.i. the 24 Hours of Spa or Zolder, but that will be it. I really enjoyed everything, especially my Belcar GTB title in 2003 and the wonderful season 2005, where Rudi and I nearly won the overall Belcar championship, still won the GTB class and last but not least won our class in the Spa 24 Hours…"

The races in Dubai will take place on Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th of December.
