Esteban Gutierrez is Very Close to Clinching Pole Position for the Formula BMW World Final 2008

07.12.2008: Esteban Gutierrez, reigning champion of the Formula BMW Europe, has been selected rookie driver for Mexican A1 team for the next race in New Zealand, and is having a great performance in the Formula BMW World Final that is being held for the first

Esteban Gutierrez, reigning champion of the Formula BMW Europe, has been selected rookie driver for Mexican A1 team for the next race in New Zealand, and is having a great performance in the Formula BMW World Final that is being held for the first time in America, and more specifically, in his country, Mexico.

This race has a three Qualifying Heats format in which drivers add up points according to their final position in each Heat. The driver that has the least amount of points after the tree Heats will start Sunday’s race from Pole Position, thus having good probability of being victorious.

Today, the first two Heats were run, and the Mexican driver has drawn many smiles among the Mexican fans that support him in the Hermanos Rodriguez race track. This is due to the fact that he is in first place of the scores after having won the first Heat and third place in the second. This ensures him a privileged position in the third and last qualifying Heat which will be raced tomorrow, Sunday, looking for the Pole Position for the final race which will be held a few hours later.

"I think we’ve done well and I have felt very comfortable racing on this track. The length of the final straight and the esses that have a few jumps have been a surprise. The car has to be prepared very well to have top speed but also good grip on the curves," the driver commented about the circuit.

"For tomorrow we will go out and give it all, as we have done all weekend, but we also have to take it easy because we don’t want to make a mistake that could cost us the starting position in the final race, although this won’t be easy since all drivers will be very aggressive trying to get a good position for the final race." Esteban indicated.

Activities end tomorrow with the third Qualifying Heat at 9:30 am and finally the Formula BMW World Final Race at 2:30 central time.
