The Start of a New Beginning

The Conquest Racing team is pumped up and excited to be in St. Petersburg this week. After a long winter, the team is ready to show their worth this week with driver Alex Tagliani behind the wheel. Tag demonstrated the team’s potential when he joined them for the final three races of 2008 and Conquest are looking to build on what they accomplished in Australia with a fourth place finish.

Welcome aboard

Conquest is welcoming a new primary sponsor for this weekend’s race. Northlands and their signature event the Rexall Edmonton Indy will be featured predominantly on the #34 Conquest car of Alex Tagliani. The team is thrilled to be able to promote such a great event while at another one of the IndyCar Series’ major events, the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Third Time a Charm?

This weekend will mark Conquest Racing’s third appearance at St. Petersburg. In each of their previous participations at the 14-turn street course, Conquest Racing has finished with one car in the top five. In 2003, they finished fourth and last season in their return to St. Petersburg they placed fifth in only their second start in what was then the newly unified IndyCar Series. Conquest looks to continue the trend this weekend.

Tag’s return to St. Pete

Alex Tagliani will be returning to the streets of St. Petersburg. The Canadian last competed here in the CART series in 2003. After what Tagliani describes as a long off-season, he is more than ready to get back in the cockpit despite not having sat in a car since last October in Surfers Paradise, Australia where he gave Conquest their best result of the season. He knows it won’t be easy but he’s up to the challenge.

IndyCar Series starts: 3 (2008)
Best start: 7th (Australia)        Best Finish: 4th (Australia)
“I really can’t wait to get back in the car this weekend. I know it won’t be easy coming in like this, not having put in any testing miles this winter. But I am in a more comfortable position than I was when I first came in at Detroit last year on the Friday night. At least now I know what to expect of the car. I also know that I have a very competent and professional team behind me that is very motivated to do well here. It has been a long off-season for everyone and I’d really like to give the crew members a good finish here to reward them.”

Eric Bachelart, Conquest Team Owner

“The team and I are very excited to be here this weekend. We’re also happy to have Alex back with us here in St. Petersburg. He did a great job for us at the end of last season and we hope to continue what we started. Finally we’re also glad to be welcoming on board Northlands and the Rexall Edmonton Indy for the weekend and to be able to help them promote their event.”
