Driving for FMSI Zuber places third in race 1 of the Monaco GP2

Andreas Zuber the young driver from Styr Austria competing under a UAE license for team FMSI in car no. 20 had a strong first race at Monaco today. Starting on  the second row of the grid, he finished the grueling race in third place, scoring his six first valuable points of the season.

Andreas Zuber has continued to show the same strong pace he set last season, where he qualified in the top seven grid positions in nine of the ten feature races that year. This year he's building on that competitive form giving Fisichella Motor Sport their best qualifying result since Adam Carroll qualified third in Istanbul more than a year ago.

At the start of race 1, Andreas made the most out of his position in an incident-free start. He showed consistently competitive pace while making no mistakes despite the fact his radio was not working thus preventing communication with his team. On lap 19 he pitted and rejoined in fifth putting for the team in a favorable position and ended up taking third position along with his six first points of the season .

The race stewards in Monaco have announced a number of penalties to be applied to the results of today's feature race as a consequence of several drivers cutting the corner at St Devote at the start of the event. An investigation into their actions was announced during the race, and at the conclusion of the event Roldan Rodriguez, Lucas di Grassi, Dani Clos, Nico Hulkenberg, Edoardo Mortara, Luca Filippi, Javier Villa and Kamui Kobayashi were all called to the stewards' office to discuss the incident.

After the resultant conversations each of the drivers were judged to have cut the apex of turn one and not used the track, putting them in breach of Article 30.3.1 of the sporting regulations. The normal penalty would be a drive through, but because it had to be applied at the end of the race 25 seconds has been added to each driver's elapsed time.

Zuber commented
, "It is my fourth time racing at Monaco. I scored my first ever points in GP2 here finishing the race in fifth in 2006. These points feel like gold today. The Monaco track is really a unique place to race with no room for mistakes. Overall, it was a difficult race. We had a lot of traffic, and I am happy to have finished third in the action packed race with a lot of drivers involved in different incidents. I am sorry I did not have get to feel the thrill of being on the podium myself!

For now I will start from sixth place tomorrow as there will be a reversed grid and it is a touchy place to leave from. The track was very dirty and slippery today. I hope that tomorrow afternoon after the F1 qualifying session the situation will have improved."
