Super Nova Istanbul race preview

04.06.2009: The GP2 Series embarks on the third round of the Main series this weekend in Turkey. The impressive purpose built F1 circuit made its Grand Prix debut in 2005 and, once again promises to provide yet another perfect platform

The GP2 Series embarks on the third round of the Main series this weekend in Turkey. The impressive purpose built F1 circuit made its Grand Prix debut in 2005 and, once again promises to provide yet another perfect platform for an exhilarating weekend of racing.

The Istanbul Park Circuit lies in the Akfýrat County of Ýstanbul, on the Asian side of the city. The unusual feature of this track is that it runs anti-clockwise, one lap covering 5.338 km.

The challenging circuit is composed of 14 corners, six right turns and eight left turns, and built on four different ground levels. With few obvious overtaking opportunities and hot conditions, drivers are put under serious pressure, the potential for mistakes means there’s no shortage of chances to pass.

The main Grand Stand at the Istanbul Park holds a total of 26,250 spectators, which the team hope will be filled.

Super Nova Racing landed in Istanbul today at the Sabiha Gokcen airport, the closest airport to the track. Traffic being a problem in Istanbul, its important to stay on the Asian side of town to help with the smooth running of the entire weekend.

Eager to take the lead following a discouraging race in Monaco two weeks ago, the team are definitely ready to get back on track!

Team principal David Sears anticipates the weekend ahead

“The whole team are looking forward to hot weekend of racing! We’re looking forward to some results following a disappointing Monaco race. We feel both drivers are up for the challenge, so we are heading there with high hopes.”

The team are currently 7th in the championship.
