The GP2 Main Series was back underway at Istanbul Park for the third round of the 2009 season. At the end of the day, Davide Rigon clocked a personal best of 1:35.328, fast enough for a spot on Row 8. Ricardo Teixeira took the best out of the few available track time in Practice to get in touch with an unknown racetrack, and clocked 1:37.278 in Qualifying. He'll take off from the 25th spot. Tomorrow's Race 1, starting at 15:00, will be televised live by Sky Sport Italy. The series' Turkish weekend will conclude with Race 2, starting on Sunday Morning.

Davide Rigon.
“I was really eager to try this racetrack first hand and I liked it a lot. I clocked the 13th fastest lap in Practice, and started Qualifying with a lot of confidence. Unfortunately, tires were lasting just one lap today: as I forced my pace in the launch lap, I found myself short of rubber at the end of my attempt. I lost the couple of tenths that would have put me into the top-10.

I also experienced the engine's alarm light popping on the dashboard, but it wasn't something harmful for it. We'll have to doublecheck everything before tomorrow's race. I feel my experience with the car growing better every time I hit the track. The next step will be to make it even more suitable for my driving style.”

Ricardo Texeira.
“I was really frustrated for not having made it to the track at Monte Carlo, but I'm glad I'll be back racing. I found the track quite difficult to tame, but extremely exciting to drive. In Qualifying I managed to lower my best laptime with ease, though I didn't put together a whole fast attempt. I had to lift the throttle twice on Turn 8 after finding a couple of slower cars in front of me. I didn't want to take risks on suc a tough corner.

Once again, I lost valuable time after being stopped for weight control: due to a radio issue, the guys at the team's pit didn't know when I was coming in, and I had to wait them to refire the engine. After today's positive race, I expect an hard day tomorrow. I'm sure that get to the end of the ra ce would lead to a positive result.”
