Telmex Arden International driver Perez in the points again…

21.06.2009: This morning’s GP2 Series sprint race might have lacked the cavalier drama of yesterday’s feature event, when Telmex Arden International driver Sergio Perez charged from 25th on the grid to finish fourth,

This morning’s GP2 Series sprint race might have lacked the cavalier drama of yesterday’s feature event, when Telmex Arden International driver Sergio Perez charged from 25th on the grid to finish fourth, but the Mexican driver put in a solid performance to add another point to his seasonal tally. Lining up fifth, Perez lost a position to Nico Hülkenberg (ART) at the start and spent the rest of his race on the German’s tail.

Team-mate Edoardo Mortara made steady progress from 26th place – and pulled off one of the race’s best manoeuvres when he simultaneously passed Javier Villa (Super Nova) and Davide Valsecchi (Durango) at Abbey Curve. The Italian had risen to 14th when he retired four laps from the end with a blown engine.

“The top six were very close today… I didn’t make a very good start, lost a position to Nico and found it very hard to get back. He had the same pace as me throughout the race, although I was closing on him towards the end. There was some oil on the track, though, and I ran a little bit wide. That probably cost me any opportunity to pass him.

“Overall, we found a good balance with the car this weekend and I hope we can continue in the same direction. I’m leaving Silverstone on a high and looking forward to the Nürburgring.”

“I’m a bit disappointed after this weekend, but at least I managed some laps today and pulled off a couple of overtaking manoeuvres. I made a small mistake at the start and lost a couple of positions, but I enjoyed the rest of the race while it lasted. Our pace was not too bad, although I had one or two tyre problems, but I’m confident we’ll do better next time out in Germany.”
