Toyota Motor Europe’s(1) (TME) sales of 291,721 vehicles was the highest first quarter since 2008. Overall sales volume increased by +2.5%, driven by strong customer demand for Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles.




TME’s electrified sales increased by +4% year-on-year as its mix reached record highs of 72% in Europe, 76% in West Europe and 53% in East Europe. The Toyota brand remained the 2nd place best-selling passenger car brand in Europe with a 6.6% market share.




“    Our first quarter sales volume is the highest since 2008 with strong demand for our multi-technology  line-up of battery electric, fuel cell, plug-in hybrid and hybrid vehicles across the region. We have very strong order banks which are testament to the appeal of the Toyota and Lexus ranges combining great design, low emission powertrains and all round product quality.

Brands and model performance

Toyota sold 278,752 vehicles in Q1 2022, an increase of +3% year-on-year. The brand’s top sellers were Yaris Cross, Yaris, C-HR, Corolla and RAV4 accounting for 74% of total volume. Toyota’s overall electrified mix expanded by +5% year-on-year with 198,232 vehicles sold, representing a 71% share of the brand’s total sales.



Lexus sold 12,969 vehicles in the same period, increasing its overall electrified mix to 83% of total brand sales. The brand’s SUV line-up of RX,NX,UX,GX and LX  represented 85% of total sales.




Lexus is looking at a substantial sales increase in Europe in 2023, due to improving supply constraints and new product introductions including the new generation RX, which includes three different electrified powertrains, the RX 350h hybrid, RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid and the first ever RX 500h turbo hybrid. Customer deliveries have now started for another major introduction, the new RZ 450e, Lexus’ first battery electric vehicle on a dedicated platform.

Lexus highlights January- March 2022:


·       Total Lexus sales: 12,969 (-5% year-on-year)

·       Top sellers: NX (4,885); RX (2,854); UX (2,581)

·       Top electrified: UX Hybrid/EV (2,379); NX Hybrid/Plug-in Hybrid (4,700); RX Hybrid (1,984)

·       Total electrified sales: 10,797 (-3% year-on-year)

·       Electrified mix: West Europe: 99%, East Europe*:35% - TTL: 83%
