BOLOGNA MOTOR SHOW -EXCEPTIONAL EVENT AT THE BOLOGNA GALLERIA D’ARTE MODERNA FOR THE THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INTERNATIONAL CAR AND MOTORCYCLE EXHIBITION

08.11.2005: BOLOGNA MOTOR SHOW -EXCEPTIONAL EVENT AT THE BOLOGNA GALLERIA D’ARTE MODERNA FOR THE THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INTERNATIONAL CAR AND MOTORCYCLE EXHIBITION

There are a number of initiatives scheduled in Bologna on the occasion of the upcoming edition of the Motor Show – International Car and Motorcycle Exhibition – which this December will come to the historic milestone of its thirtieth birthday. Among the various plans, to be announced in the coming weeks - considerable space has been dedicated to culture, with an exhibition that will involve the show's public in a journey through the universe of the most surprising and spectacular artistic creations of contemporary art.

The exhibition DRIVE. Automobiles in contemporary art, with the Director of the Bologna Galleria d’Arte Moderna Gianfranco Maraniello as curator and prepared by Promotor International, Bologna Galleria d’Arte Moderna and the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation of Turin, will explore one of the most powerful modern myths, bringing to Bologna twenty large installations by some of the leading contemporary artists from all over the world, including: Franz Ackermann, Elisabetta Benassi, Plamen Dejanoff, Giuseppe Gabellone, Robert Longo, Michel Majerus, Julian Opie, Tobias Rehberger, Jason Rohades, Andreas Slominski, Simon Starling, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Costa Veloce, Xaver Veilhan, and Andrea Zittel.

The automobile from its debut, intertwined with the myth of speed and progress, until today, with an interpretation of the most advanced forms of marketing and communication, via the major topics related to individual mobility - in the sense of freedom of movement - and the importance of the automobile in processes of mass industrialization.

In its three decades of existence, the Motor Show has accompanied – and often inspired - the needs of the public, to which it has presented new automotive developments and trends. DRIVE uses the work of some of the most important artists of our time to create a path for examining the evolution of the car: its social role and influence on the collective imagination. Contemporary art has in turn "taken over" the aesthetics of the automobile, reinventing it at times. A relationship, therefore, that goes beyond simple analysis or interpretation. DRIVE. Automobiles in contemporary art is a journey through this relationship, linked to recent history as well as the present and everyday life.

The exhibition DRIVE. Automobiles in contemporary art will be held at the Bologna Galleria d’Arte Moderna from 2 December 2005 to 5 March 2006 (Piazza della Costituzione, 3 - Bologna).
