ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship 2021: Starting grid promises thrills and action

•    Four guest starters can qualify in advance of events

The qualifying phase of the ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship powered by EnBW mobility+ is over and the 28 fixed drivers have been decided.

A top quality starting grid awaits fans, with some of the major Esports teams represented. Europe’s top sim racers, for example, Germany’s Moritz Löhner (Dörr Esports), Spain’s Néstor Garcia (Red Bull Racing Esports) and Britain’s Jack Keithley (Williams Esports), guarantee action-packed races and a thrilling championship.

The interest in the ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship was huge: More than 4,500 sim racers attempted to qualify for one of the 64 starting spots in the two shootout events on 1st April and 8th April 2021. In each shootout, 32 drivers went head to head in three races, to clinch a spot in the ADAC GT Masters eSports starting line-up.

Each of the entrants had to complete three practice sessions and three races. The drivers in shootout 1 went head to head at the Hockenheimring, in Oschersleben and at the Sachsenring, while the Red Bull Ring, Zandvoort and the sprint circuit at the Nürburgring were the venues for shootout 2.

Points were up for grabs for the sim racers in every race – the 14 drivers with the highest scores qualified for the ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship 2021.

The six races overall were a sneak preview of the championship: The qualifying sessions showed just how high the level of performance is. In some instances, a few tenths of a second were all that separated the top ten. Most of the sim racers adopted a very tactical approach to the actual races, but not at the expense of countless highlights and brilliant overtaking manoeuvres.

In the 2020 season, the three drivers Moritz Löhner, Néstor Garcia and Jack Keithley kept the battle for the championship alive until the final race. And since all three of them have qualified for the 2021 championship, we could see a repeat of the three-way battle.

But other drivers are eager to have their say: In Christopher Högfeldt (Virtualdrivers by TX3), Kevin Siggy (Team Redline), Erhan Jajovski (R8G Esports) and Tim Jarschel (EURONICS Gaming), the starting grid contains further top sim racers.

So, the stage is set for a thrilling 2021 season. The first event will be held in Oschersleben on 1st June. In addition to the 28 fixed drivers, four guest starters will contest each event. A leader board will be set up online ahead of each race event, to determine which sim racers qualify for each of the four spots. See adac.de/esports for all the info.

The GT4 eSports Championship will be held before the ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship. The 32 entrants must qualify for each of the seven races via a separate leader board. Each of the actual races will last 20 minutes, and are an exciting platform for all aspiring Esports pros and sim racers who narrowly missed out on qualifying for the ADAC GT Masters. The three fastest GT4 drivers of the season will be given a wildcard for the GT Masters eSports Championship 2022.

The ADAC GT Masters eSport Championship is sponsored by EnBWmobility+, Dekra, Faber Exposize, KW Automotive, Pirelli and the ADAC loyalty scheme.
