Australians Nic Rapa and Tony Iacconi produced spectacular displays to lead the Open Men qualifiers at the end of a rain-hit second day at the 2019 IWWF World Wakeboard Championships in Abu Dhabi.
Rapa dazzled with a highest score of 94.11 to win his heat while fellow-countryman Iacconi was also in brilliant form as he topped his qualifier on 86.78 to progress to Friday afternoon’s quarter finals.
Massimiliano Piffaretti (83.33), gold medal winner at last month’s ANOC Worlds Beach Games, fellow-Italian Lorenzo Soprani (77.89) and Ireland’s David O’Caoimh (74.89) were the other heat winners.
UAE captain Khaled Subaa and team-mate Omeir Saeed, gaining valuable experience at the top level, will have another chance to go through in tomorrow afternoon’s last chance qualifiers.
