Buggyra Ultimate Dakar: Successful finish for Ourednicek and Vaculik in 2016 Dakar Rally

17.01.2016: The crew of Buggyra Ultimate Dakar, Tomas Ourednicek and Pavel Vaculik succesfully

The crew of Buggyra Ultimate Dakar, Tomas Ourednicek and Pavel Vaculik succesfully finished the 2016 Dakar Rally. In the last stage between Villa Carlos Paz and Rosario the crew clocked the 41st time, overall they landed in 47th position with the Hummer H3 EVO.

“Today was maybe the most stressful day of all… I didn’t want to think about finishing. I was very tired, so I tried to drive carefully, but still we were able to pass three cars in the special.

The stage was very nice but I couldn’t really enjoy it because my ears were very painful due to the constant rubbing of the helmet.

Each and every bump of the special hurt, but I tried to stay focused up until the finish line. Now we go to Rosario to drive through the podium at the end of this very hard race. I’m really touched, it’s hard to find words to describe my feelings” Tomas Ourednicek said after the finish of the 180 km long last special.

Tomas and Pavel had very hard two weeks in their first Dakar Rally together. They struggled a lot with the engine of their Hummer loosing power in the high altitude specials of Bolivia, and were on the edge of withdrawal in the dunes of Fiambala due to overheating fuel and other technical problems.

But despite these difficulties, they have fond memories, too, for example finishing in the top 40 on two occasions or meeting the enthusiastic Bolivian Dakar fans.

Tatra Buggyra Racing made a 100% finish with both trucks crossing the finish line as well. Jaroslav Valtr together with Jiri Stross and co-driver legend Josef Kalina achieved a career’s best 8th place, while stage winner trio of Martin Kolomy, Rene Kilian and David Kilian finished in 16th position after accidents and technical problems.

  About the team

Tomas Ourednicek and Pavel Vaculik started out together at the beginning of the 2014 season, with the clear aim to gain enough experience to prepare to start in the Dakar Rally.

Right in their first season together their scored their first points in the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies and were runner-up in the FIA Central European Zone Trophy for Cross-Country Rallies. In the Hungarian Championship, they became champions of category T1.1.2 and finished 4th in the overall classification in both 2014 and 2015.

The 2016 edition of Dakar Rally marks their first appearance together in the desert classic. Their Hummer H3 Evo wears start number #381.

Tomas Ourednicek, the driver of Buggyra Ultimate Dakar is a successful businessman with a long-time passion for motorsport. Before starting out as driver, he gained experience as navigator of Miroslav Zapletal. They scored their best result in the 2009 Dakar Rally, finishing 7th overall and 3rd in category T1.1, one of the best results ever achieved by a private team.

The same year they clinched the Hungarian and the Czech championship titles. In 2011, after recovering from the injuries suffered in a serious accident during Dakar 2010, he finished 4th overall in the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies.

The co-driver of Buggyra Ultimate Dakar, Pavel Vaculik has huge experience not only in cross-country rallies, but classic rallies as well. He has taken part in numerous World Cup events beside competing in European races. He was also active as rally organiser, FIA safety official and rally mechanic. Off-track he is manager in a family company.
