La deuxième journée du Rallye de Bulgarie a permis aux Citroën C4 WRC d’affirmer leur domination. Grâce à leurs performances et aux choix tactiques de l’équipe, Sébastien Loeb et Daniel Elena ont accentué leur avance en tête de la course. Grâce à la deuxième position de Dani Sordo et Marc Marti, le Citroën Total World Rally Team est en position de marquer le maximum de points à l’arrivée de cette septième manche de la saison.

 

La deuxième étape du Rallye de Bulgarie était la plus longue. Toujours tracé sur les routes montagneuses des environs de Borovets, l’itinéraire était composé d’une boucle de trois spéciales à parcourir deux fois. Avec des conditions météo changeantes et différentes selon les spéciales, le choix des pneumatiques s’avérait crucial au moment de quitter le parc d’assistance pour la première boucle.

Les deux C4 du Citroën Total World Rally Team partaient chaussées de pneus Pirelli P-Zero tendres. Ce choix était le plus judicieux, puisque Sébastien Loeb et Daniel Elena signaient le ‘scratch’ à l’arrivée des 28 kilomètres de Sestrimo 1 (ES5) : « Ce n’était pas évident car il y avait beaucoup de brouillard. Je suis content d’être à l’arrivée de cette spéciale ! »

 Dans le secteur suivant, c’était au tour de Dani Sordo de se mettre en évidence en signant le meilleur temps : « C’est agréable, mais je ne pensais pas forcément être le plus rapide : je n’ai pas l’impression d’avoir attaqué à fond ! La voiture est facile à piloter et cela m’aide à aller vite sans en rajouter. » L’ES7 étant neutralisée pour des raisons de sécurité, les voitures regagnaient le parc d’assistance de mi-journée en n’ayant disputé que deux spéciales.

« Le choix des pneumatiques n’était pas évident. Au moment où nous devions monter les roues sur la voiture, nous savions que la deuxième et la troisième spéciales étaient humides. Grâce aux informations de Météo France, nous avons appris qu’il allait également pleuvoir dans la première spéciale et nous avons définitivement basculé sur le choix des pneus tendres », expliquait Sébastien Loeb de retour àl’assistance. « Nous avons maintenu notre avance sur Dani et creusé un peu plus l’écart sur Petter Solberg, c’est donc parfait. »

Pour la seconde boucle, Seb choisissait un train de pneus tendres. Dani, de son côté, panachait sa monte avec deux pneus durs à l’avant et deux tendres à l’arrière. L’Espagnol embarquait également deux roues de secours tendres.

Parti en pneus durs, Petter Solberg et sa C4 WRC signaient les trois meilleurs temps de l’après-midi. Le Norvégien revenait ainsi à moins de 5’’ de Dani. « Ma C4 se comportait bien, mais le surpoids de la deuxième roue de secours a dégradé son efficacité », expliquait l’Espagnol. « Nous avions fait ce choix car il était fort possible qu’un orage détrempe la dernière spéciale. Nous avons réussi à conserver la deuxième place, mais il faudra encore se battre demain pour terminer le rallye devant Petter. »

Le choix des pneus tendres n’était pas plus optimal pour Sébastien : « Nous savions que ce n’était pas forcément la meilleure option, mais notre avance nous permettait de choisir la sécurité au vu des risques d’orage. Globalement nous n’avons pas perdu beaucoup de temps. J’ai ajusté mon style de pilotage, car les pneus tendres surchauffés ont tendance à rendre la voiture moins précise. Il suffit de trouver le bon rythme en anticipant un peu plus. Il faudra terminer le travail demain pour aller chercher la victoire. »
