Calan Williams signs Fortec Motorsports deal

In the coming season, Calan Williams will contest the Formula European Masters for the British squad Fortec Motorsports. This means that the 18-year old Australian will be teamed up with US-American Cam Das.

Calan Williams already secured several titles in his career to date. Two years ago, at the age of 16, he won the Australian Formula 3 Championship. Afterwards he moved to Europe to represent the Fortec Motorsports colours with a Dallara single-seater in the EuroFormula Open. To perfectly prepare for the new challenge, the Formula European Masters, Williams travelled to New Zealand to contest the country’s Toyota Racing Series.

“I’m really looking forward to the coming Formula European Masters season,” Williams said. “I learned a lot in my first year in Europe and thanks to the experiences I gathered this winter in New Zealand I feel ready for the next logical step on the motor-racing ladder. And I’m particularly happy about the fact that I will do this step together with Fortec Motorsports. After all, I owe the team and Team Principal and engineer Mick Kouros in particular a lot. He developed me greatly as racing driver.”

“Calan developed really well, in the short period of time, and we jointly work on turning him into an even better driver. We are of the opinion that the Formula 3 European Masters is the perfect race series for him as the series offers him the chance of shining on an optimum platform in front of the eyes of the manufacturers involved in DTM,” Fortec Team Principal Mick Kouros said on the occasion of the signing of the deal, thus displaying optimism regarding the things to come.

No other race series offers the young drivers as much track time per race weekend as the Formula European Masters and in addition, the young drivers are offered good individual testing opportunities between the race meetings. In addition, Williams and his rivals will race one of the best single-seaters for learning their trade. The fact that the Formula European Masters and its predecessors represent a perfect basis for a successful career is demonstrated by the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen who also raced here before being promoted to Formula One.
