Scuderia Coloni and Michael Herck will start from P12 in tomorrow’s GP2 Asia debut race, with James Jakes lining-up on 13th row after today’s Qualifying session on the Yas Marina Circuit.
The team was on a high mood after that the morning Free Practice session saw Michael Herck post the 7th quickest time: the Romanian driver confirmed his good shape also in the qualifying session and P12, although a good result, doesn’t reflect Michael’s full potential. Herck was indeed hampered by some slower cars and this costed him some places on the grid, especially considering that P4 is just two tenths adrift from the 1’36”863 he posted.
James Jakes was even more unlucky and closed the session with a 1’37”741. The brit was really quick in the first two sectors but traffic on track spoiled his S3, wasting both his best laps and meaning a very hard race set for tomorrow.
Paolo Coloni: “It was a strange session and traffic played a big part in defining the grid. Michael could have been 4th easily, and I’m sure that tomorrow he will do a great race, as we have the pace for a good recovery.
In the meantime I am incredibly sorry for Jakes: his best times in S1 and S2 were good for the top spots, and seeing such a good performance wasted just because slow cars are standing on the racing line is pretty frustrating. His race will be very difficult, but James has the spine to face the odds”.

| After a frustrating qualifying session today the Super Nova cars will line up in 16th (Johnny Cecotto) and 23rd (Fairuz Fauzy), on the grid for tomorrow’s GP2 Asia feature race.
