GS Motorsport: Erster Test in Zolder
GS Motorsport war auf den ersten Test im belgischen Zolder sehr gespannt. Man hatte die neue GS Dodge Viper (nur in weiß lackiert und noch ohne Sponsorlogos) nach der Auslieferung vor 12 Tagen komplett neu aufgebaut. Und so ließ es sich auch Georg Severich nicht nehmen die ersten Runden auf der noch feuchten Rennstrecke zu absolvieren.
„Unglaublich leicht zu fahren, trotz der 520 PS", war der erste positive Eindruck des Aachener Rennfahrers, der mit seinem Team 2007 sein 25jähriges Rennjubiläum feiert. „Wir stehen sehr unter Zeitdruck, denn am 1. April steht das erste Rennen an, und bis dahin müssen wir noch eine Menge Abstimmungen testen", erklärte Teammanager Wolfgang Koepp.
Harald Becker (D), der schon erfolgreich in der DTM und bei internationalen Sport- und Prototypenrennwagen unterwegs war, spulte das vorgegebene Testprogramm routiniert ab.
Kenneth Heyer, der neue Youngster im GS Team, war hochzufrieden mit den ersten Runden im neuen Rennwagen: „Die GS Dodge Viper hat mich angenehm überrascht. Dieser Wagen hat ein gutes Handling, eine starke Traktion und ein beeindruckendes Drehmoment. Mir macht das Fahren in dem Auto sehr viel Spaß", freute sich der junge Wegberger, der zusammen mit Mark J. Thomas (CDN) die GS Dodge Viper in der belgischen Meisterschaft (BELCAR) fahren wird. Insgesamt stehen dort sieben Rennen an.
Neben der BELCAR will sich GS Motorsport 2007 auch an der neu geschaffenen ADAC GT Masters Serie in Deutschland beteiligen. Diese Serie startet zwar erst am 09. Juni 2007 auf dem Nürburgring, doch für eine zweite neue GS Dodge Viper müssen jetzt die Weichen gestellt werden.
Als Fahrer dafür sind Harald Becker, Kenneth Heyer und evtl. der Schweizer Benjamin Leuenberger vorgesehen. Leuenberger, einer der erfolgreichsten Schweizer Rennfahrer, weilte ebenfalls in Zolder." Eine sehr professionelle Mannschaft", war sein erster Eindruck von dem Aachener Rennteam.
GS Motorsport wird in der BELCAR auch zwei GS Porsche 996 GT3 Rennwagen einsetzen. In Zolder stimmten Arvid Steinberg (Stolberg/D) und Philippe Broodcooren (B) die Fahrzeuge für das erste Rennen am 1. April in Zolder ab.

The Aussie invasion of the Champ Car World Series continued today when well-known Australian businessman Paul Stoddart announced be had purchased a controlling interest in the Indianapolis-based CTE Racing - HVM Champ Car team.
