Sophia Flörsch and Yuki Tsunoda have already opted to race in the Formula European Masters this season, and now they have been joined by the next motor-racing talent: Liam Lawson. The New Zealander is a new member of the Red Bull squad and, consequently, a fellow Red Bull Junior of Japanese Tsunoda.



On the Formula European Masters grid, both Red Bull Juniors will represent the Team Motopark colours. With this move Red Bull once again demonstrates that the Formula European Masters is one of the most important stepping stones in the career of a racing driver.
 


17-year old Liam Lawson currently is regarded as one of New Zealand’s biggest motor-racing hopes and is well-known in the European motor-sport world. At home in New Zealand he recently won the Toyota Racing Series, a winter series for single-seaters that also was contested by former DTM driver Lucas Auer.



Last year, Lawson contested the ADAC Formula 4, his first season in Europe, to win three races and finish second in the championship. Lawson already looks forward to racing at the European circuits.




 “I have raced at Hockenheim several times and I really like that circuit. The one I am most looking forward to is Brands Hatch in the UK. There is so much history around that circuit and the up and down nature of the track will make for a great challenge.”




In 2017, Lawson celebrated a similar success in the Australian Formula 4: there, he clinched five race wins and also finished second in the championship. This winter he returned home to race in the Toyota Racing Series and in a thrilling battle for the title he defeated his compatriot Marcus Armstrong to celebrate his biggest motor-sport success to date. 
 


The impressive career of Liam Lawson also attracted the attention of Red Bull and so, the Austrian’s signed the Kiwi for their junior squad. In a press release published today one could read: “The breadth of experience is fascinating, Lawson has just won the New Zealand Grand Prix, the day before his seventeenth birthday, and will now contest the very prestigious and competitive Formula European Masters series with Motopark, the team that took 19-year-old Briton Dan Ticktum to back-to-back Macau victories.“




The fact that Red Bull have their juniors contest the Formula European Masters and its predecessor already is a tradition. And the single-seaters once again will feature the striking and well-known livery that already decorated Daniel Ticktum’s car last year. The Briton proved to be the toughest rival of Mick Schumacher in the battle for the title and finished second behind the German in the end.


 
The 2019 Formula European Masters causes a stir with extraordinary incentives for young racing drivers. The young-driver series will reward the first three drivers in the championship with special prizes: the top three will be invited to the ‘DTM Young Driver Tests’ held when the season is over.




One of them even will be granted an additional opportunity to demonstrate their skills: as guest driver in a DTM race meeting of the 2020 season they will have the chance of battling it out with the touring-car elite. As icing on the cake, the 2019 Formula European Masters Champion will travel to Japan in winter for a day of testing in the Japanese Super Formula Series.
 


In early May, the Formula European Masters will kick of its season at Hockenheim in the DTM support programme. As a partner series the Formula European Masters cooperates very closely with DTM, a fact that is demonstrated – inter alia – by the joint calendar. As a result, best touring-car and single-seater racing is guaranteed.
