NHRA Southeast division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors will be at Atlanta Dragway, October 3-5, for the fifth of six races on the schedule. They will vie for late-season points leading to divisional and national championships. Peter Gallen of Broomall, Pa., leads the Top Alcohol Dragster points over Jacksonville, Fla., resident Artie Allen. The two squared off in the final round at the divisions last race, at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil, Ga. Allen scored the win but it was not enough to move past Gallen. Prior to that event, Gallen had a spate of semifinal-round finishes and Allen had failed to make the eight-car field a couple of times. Top Alcohol Funny Cars Jay Payne is on his way to his seventh Southeast division title in six years. Before that, the veteran racer from Claremont, Calif., had earned four Top Alcohol Dragster championships. Payne, who is married to former NHRA Top Fuel pilot Shelly Anderson, opened the year with a runner-up finish at Bradenton (Fla.) Motorsports Park and took the win at the divisions next event, at Gainesville (Fla.) Raceway. Keeter Ray of Newport Beach, Calif., is second in the point standings. Ray earned the win at South Georgia Motorsports Park but has suffered first-round losses at his last two events. Comp Eliminator racer Arnie Martel has a slim 11-point lead over Frank Cervelli, Mount Holly, N.C. Martel, who hails from Tewksbury, Mass., won the divisions race at Orlando (Fla.) Speed World Dragway and was runner-up at an out of division race in Cordova, Ill., while Cervellis best showing of the year came in the form of a win at Gainesville Raceway. NHRA Southeast division Lucas Oil racers will close out the season October 24-26 at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, Ga. www.AtlantaDragway.com or www.nhra.com - Brett Lyons- 30.09.2008 / MaP More News |
