Yifei Ye made history in the first Euroformula race at the Hungaroring, as he became the first Chinese winner in series history and the first driver to win racing the Dallara 320 car. Similarly, by winning in its debut race in Europe, CryptoTower became the first Japanese team to win in the series.

Following his success, Ye commented: “It was a really tough race. I think the heat was around 36degrees air temp, so not so far from 50 degrees track temp. Pretty hot session. Happy with the result and thanks to the team. This new Dallara 320 is a fabulous car to drive. It's got good performance and good balance, and it really demands intelligence from the team and their driver; their co-operation to get the perfect car to perform. I think this is a car really for the driver and for the engineer to show their performance.

The CryptoTower Racing Team driver started in pole position, and made a solid start before moving across the track to defend the first corner as drivers behind went three-wide.

For the first few tours of the 17-lap race he was followed closely by Van Amersfoort Racing’s Andreas and Sebastian Estner, who are brothers racing in the series. Younger brother Sebastian went for a move on Andreas at the start but couldn't make it, and he saved his tyres before closing in once again late in the race. Andreas held onto second place, with Sebastian just over a second behind, and also won among Rookies.

Ye got faster and faster through the race, and his winning margin came to 7.415s. He will be aiming to do the same in the second race tomorrow.

Carlin’s Zane Maloney and Ido Cohen were fourth and sixth in the race, sandwiching top Motopark driver Manuel Maldonado. Ayrton Simmons hassled Cohen throughout the race and finished seventh in the sole Double R Racing-run car.

Motopark's second driver Niklas Krutten came eighth eighth, and Drivex School got both of its cars - driven by Glenn van Berlo and Shihab Al Habsi - into the points. CryptoTower's Rui Andrade and VAR's Alexandre Bardinon ensured all the drivers finished the race.
