(Traversee de Paris) in historic vehicles ! A living, moving history

SUNDAY 25th JULY 2021

Colourful, diverse, joyful, historical – that’s how we can describe the “Traversees de Paris” in classic and vintage vehicles. Organised by the club Vincennes en Anciennes, the ‘Crossing of Paris’ once again promises to comprise a rich selection of 700 vehicles of all makes and countries (cars, motorcycles, bicycles, tractors, light commercial vehicles and buses) each more than 30 years old.

The crews will be dressed all in white. For those who don’t have old vehicles, the crossing can be made on 1930s buses (reservation required). Vehicles will also be on view at the departure point in Vincennes and at the arrival point in Meudon, or along the route.

The squares of Paris will be the theme of this gigantic gathering. All these squares, whether large or discreet have a history, and sometimes specific peculiarities, and some are even famous outside our borders. Some evoke a great character, a place, or hide symbolism.

Did you know that there are nearly 500 in the capital? Or that the Place de la Concorde is the largest sundial in the world? (the ‘Crossing of Paris’ will not go through it). For this event, there is no question of going through them all so only 39 were selected (in 11 boroughs/arrondisements). 39, yes, but which ones? This mystery will remain until the cars leave because, as usual, the course will be kept secret until Sunday morning.

Ok, here are some random examples:

- She doesn’t look well in Dutronc’s song.

- Le Triomphe de la Republique sits at its centre. It had two different names before its current one.

- Night owls have their kiosk here.

At Meudon the festival continues

From 11:30 am, the Terrasse de l'Observatoire de Meudon will be the highlight of the ‘Crossing of Paris’ and will host the traditional picnic right in the middle of the old vehicles.

This will be an opportunity to learn more about the history of these models and take nice photos. Everyone will be able to participate (without their car and by bringing their own picnic). An orchestra will give a musical note to this intergenerational event.

A village of exhibitors mainly made up of professionals specializing in vintage vehicles will offer many services, and partners will have specific locations for original exhibitions:

The Peugeot Citroën DS Adventure preserves, develops and promotes the heritage of the Peugeot, Citroën and DS
automobiles, in France and around the world. The association will be present with several vehicles, some of which will come from reserves for the event.

Thus we can admire: a Type H, a Citroën C4 (1932), a Citroën Ami 6 (1967), a Peugeot 504 cabriolet (1969), a
Discoverable Visa (1984). The Citroën ZX and the Peugeot 106 will celebrate their 30 years, the Simca Aronde her
70th Spring!

The Retromobile Show, deprived of opening to public in 2021 due to the pandemic, will present some nuggets that
have survived the ages: a Ford A (1930), this small roadster with a big engine is very popular in the world of vintage cars, a Pontiac (1942) which, in 2000, toured the world in 80 days and in 2010 the Beijing - Paris, a Triumph TR3 (1953), a Traction 11 CV (1957), a Corvette (1966) which embodies the American dream with its 300 hp under the
hood, a Mini Moke (1966).

This latter military project without a follow-up gave birth to one of the most formidable leisure cars, an Autobianchi Eden Rock (1969), a legendary taxi - the London Cab (1970), a Toyota Land Cruiser (1989) which, despite its truck-like appearance, makes those looking for adventure dream, and two motorcycles: a BMW sidecar (1963), a Peugeot 350 cc (1932) in original condition.

The UNIVEM ensures the preservation of the historical heritage of military vehicles from the last conflicts and will setup a US military camp on the theme: Motorcycles in Uniform.

Among the heavy vehicles: DUKW, Half Track, GMC, Dodge and Jeep, we can admire the Harley Davidson WLA
manufactured to US Army specifications in 1940 and of which 90,000 were produced during the war. Parachutable,
light and functional, there is the astonishing Welbike.

This British motorcycle was designed for accompanying units operating in enemy territory. The Cushman M 53 is a scooter developed in the United States from 1937. With the event of World War II, all production went to the war effort. In one year,1944, 4,374 units of this scooter were produced. An Indian 741 Military will also be on display.
