Tresor by Car Collection contested its best weekend yet in Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup in Hockenheim, but a technical problem and a contact in the closing stages of the race prevented the Italian team to secure a strong result.



The two Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo 2 displayed great speed and pace in all conditions since Friday thanks to the great performance of the two lineups: Christopher Haase (GER), Luca Ghiotto (ITA) and Mattia Drudi (ITA) exchanged behind the wheel of the #12 car, Lorenzo Patrese (ITA), Hugo Valente (FRA) and Thierry Vermeulen (NL) did the same in Silver Cup in the #11 car.



Rain characterized free practice and limited the chance to define a dry setup for qualifying, a task that could be done only in pre-qualifying. The team did a great job though and allowed the drivers to show their best in qualifying.



The #12 car closed the three qualifying sessions with an average time of 1’37.755s which earned it the fourth place on the starting grid. Haase came to the fore in Q1 securing P8 in a very tight session, Drudi was ninth in Q2 instead. Ghiotto put in a great result in Q3 posting the fourth fastest time and allowing the trio to improve their position on the grid.



The #11 car also ran a solid qualifying posting with an average time of 1’38.458s which was the eighth fastest of the Silver Cup. In Q1 Vermeulen made his debut taking the eleventh time not far from the top ten, Patrese was fifth in the category in Q2 with a good performance, while Valente was thirteenth in Silver Cup in Q3.



The race has been fascinating. Drudi started the race in the #12 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo 2 and installed himself in P2 in the span of a few laps, thanks also to a spectacular overtaking move on the #71 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo at the restart after the safety car.



At the end of the first hour, the #12 car got the lead of the race and Ghiotto rejoined still in the lead after the pit-stop. The Italian driver kept the lead with a great stint, while at the following pit stop at the end of the third hour Haase rejoined in the battle for the win with the #25 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo 2. The German driver was close to the rivals, but when 12 minutes were left to go a technical problem forced the team to retire the car.



The #11 car also had a tough race. A great Patrese drove a very solid first stint, recovering up to P5 of Silver Cup. In the central part of the race, Vermuelen effectively kept himself in the top ten, but the race prematurely ended in the closing stint when Valente was hit by another car. The damage sustained by the #11 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo 2 did not allow the drivers to continue the race.



Tresor by Car Collection will get back on track next September 16 -18 for the closing round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup in Valencia (ESP). The Endurance Cup will reach its conclusion on September 30 – October 2 in Barcelona (ESP) instead.

“This was not the end result we deserved. The whole team, the pit guys and the drivers did a great job and we displayed good performance. It is difficult to accept such a poor result because we contested the best weekend of the season yet, fighting for the win for over an hour with the #12 car thanks to a spectacular drive by Mattia, Luca and Christopher. Unfortunately, this is part of motorsport.


We are also a bit disappointed with the retirement of the #11 car. We believe a lot in our junior drivers' project and once again Lorenzo, Hugo and the new entry Thierry defended themselves with honour posting interesting lap times in qualifying and in the race”.
