CHAMPIONSHIP RACE round 7
Wednesday, March 4th 2021

CHAMPIONSHIP RACE:
The VCO Twitter vote for the penultimate "Championship Race" of the season produced a clear winner with 87 per cent: more than 40 Dallara F3s took to the track at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
Somewhat surprisingly, Sage Karam secured pole position with a lead of 0.050 seconds over Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen. In the race, there were a number of accidents right from the start, which mainly involved the title favourites.

Ayhancan Güven and Joshua Rogers were affected as well as Laurin Heinrich and Graham Carroll and Philipp Eng and Sebastian Job. Verstappen was fighting for the lead when there was another collision between him and Nicolas Varrone, as a result of which Verstappen and his team-mate Maximilian Benecke had to retire. After 40 minutes, Sage Karam and Mack Bakkum secured the victory.

Both made a big leap forward in the overall Esports Racer and Real-World Pros rankings as a result. Güven and Rogers resumed the race after a repair stop in the pits and at least collected some more important points thanks to a top-20 result.
This allowed Rogers to defend his overall lead in the Esports Racers just ahead of his Coanda Simsport teammate Bakkum.

In the Real-World Pros, Karam and Güven are extremely close to each other before the final. Second and third places in the "Championship Race" went to Bruno Spengler and Martin Krönke and Lorenzo Colombo and Freek Schothorst.

Sage Karam: "Max Verstappen is damn fast in any car, but I managed to put in the perfect lap in qualifying. I didn't go off the track, that was the key. After all, the motto is always 'keep it on the dancefloor'."
Mack Bakkum (Coanda Simsport): "It was a great race, I will definitely celebrate some more. It was pretty easy to keep the lead after Sage did a great job in qualifying. I knew if nothing crazy happened I could keep the gap to our chasers. The next few weeks will be interesting. I always cook here at the Coanda house, maybe I'll prepare some raw chicken for Josh before the final."

Bruno Senna: "It was a lot of fun, even if it didn't last very long. I had a crazy crash in the pit lane. On iRacing, I've driven with Rubens Barrichello before, but I still have very little experience and I'm not a professional. The level is incredibly high and the Esports Racers are extremely fast. I could hardly prepare for the race today."
Pole position:
Sage Karam 2:11.073 min.
Race result (Top-10)*:
1st place: Karam / Backum (Coanda Simsport).
2nd place: Spengler / Krönke (Coanda Simsport) + 0,976 sec.
3rd place: Colombo / Schothorst (Team Redline) + 6,423
4th place: Grinbergas / Ostgaard (Coanda Simsport) +7,664
5th place: Tregurtha / Setsaas (CoRe SimRacing) +12,059
6th place: Thompson / Albert (Altus Esports) 16,827
7th place: Varrone / van Loozenoord (R8G Esports) +18,712
8th place: Visser / Koch (BS+COMPETITION) +19,517
9th place: Morad / Almeida (EG Racing) 20,397
10th place: Pineiro / Kasdorp (-) +25,336
