• Team Williams Esports Chillblast wins the GTP class at the iRacing 24h Daytona powered by VCO.

• Apex Racing Team takes victory in LMP2 and the GTD class.

• Haasper: “For me, it is the biggest mass sporting event that motorsport has to offer.”

Munich – Williams Esports Chillblast (GTP class) and Apex Racing Team (LMP2 and GTD class) were worthy winners at the first Grand Slam Event of the year on leading sim platform iRacing. Alexander Spetz, Matt Farrow, Arthur Lehouck (Williams Esports Chillblast), Elvis Rankin, Michele Costantini, Stanley Deslandes (Apex Racing Team, LMP2 class), and Jamie Fluke, Salva Talens, Yohann Harth and Michael Janney (Apex Racing Team, GTD class) guided their teams to one of the most prestigious victories of the year.

In total, 16,651 drivers and 4,191 teams competed in 85 splits at the iRacing 24h Daytona powered by VCO – impressive figures, which highlight why the event is one of the VCO iRacing Grand Slam Events in 2023.

In the GTP class, the Williams Esports Chillblast team – after an exciting battle for the lead at the start of the race with Obsidian Racing and BMW M Team BS+COMPETITION – was rewarded for a virtually flawless drive with victory, despite an unscheduled stop for repairs. This was the first time that the new BMW M Hybrid V8 had been represented in an iRacing Special Event, heralding the GTP and LMDh era of Esports racing.

In the LMP2 class, Apex Racing Team dominated the crucial closing stages of the race after an incident involving the leaders to that point, Williams Esports MAHLE, meant they fell out of contention for the win. The Corby-based team celebrated the second Apex victory of the weekend in the GTD class in which the BMW Bank team, which started from pole position, proved to be their fiercest rival. There was a change of leader shortly after the start, which proved to be all-important, thanks to a strong team effort from the two Apex cars in the field.

Florian Haasper, CEO of Virtual Competition Organisation (VCO), drew a positive conclusion at the end of the 24 hours: “We are very proud that the iRacing 24h Daytona was part of the VCO Grand Slam this time. Congratulations to the class winners Williams Esports and Apex Racing Team.

However, it is not just about the top split at this event, but the whole iRacing community. Just short of 17,000 drivers and more than 4,000 teams were represented in countless splits. For me, this makes the race the biggest mass sporting event that motorsport has to offer – whether virtual or in the real world. Compliments to iRacing on the perfect implementation of such a major event.”

Reactions from the winners:

Jamie Fluke (Apex Racing Team): “
It was a wonderful environment to be in. To be able to eventually put all the pieces together is a great feeling.”

Arthur Lehouck (Williams Esports
): “It was a tough situation when we had to repair our car. We decided to do a short stint. We made it in the end.”

Elvis Rankin (Apex Racing Team):
“I have been at our facility in Corby for a couple of weeks now and it was a great experience. Everyone in the Apex Racing Team put a lot of effort into winning this race.”

21st/22nd January: 24h Daytona
26th March: 12h Sebring
