Drivex and Glenn van Berlo completed another strong weekend at Mugello circuit, which hosted the fifth appointment of the 2020 Euroformula F3 Open season. The event took place in tricky changeable weather conditions but the Dutchman showed he is a class of his own and shone at the wheel of the HWA-powered Dallara 320.



Van Berlo and Drivex made a positive start to the weekend on Friday setting competitive lap times in both free practice sessions. Netherlands’ young ace clocked a best lap time of 1m37.694s in the afternoon.



Unlike Friday, Saturday was expected to be a rain-marred day. In such difficult conditions, van Berlo secured his best qualifying position in the Formula 3-based racing series by taking 7th spot on the starting grid for Race 1 with a lap time of 1m56.260s on the wet.



Race 1 saw another perfect example of frantic F3 action and van Berlo brought the car seventh home after 16 laps in which he was in close contention with Ido Cohen. Van Berlo made a mistake-free race to step second on the Rookies’ class rostrum.



On Sunday, Q2 also took place in rainy conditions and van Berlo clocked a lap time of 1m57.684s to line up 12th on the starting grid for race 2.



Van Berlo, as every driver on the grid, chose to start on slick tires. After the opening laps, rain made its appearance once again and van Berlo pitted for a fresh set of wet tires. Drivex’s excellent pit work was key to gain some places and the Dutchman took the checkered flag in 8th place and third rookie classified.



Van Berlo currently sits third in the Rookies´ classification on 68 points, a mere point behind Zane Maloney.



The Euroformula F3 Open will head to Belgium for its Round 6 at Spa-Francorchamps in two weeks’ time.

Miguel Ángel de Castro (Team Principal): “It was another tough weekend but we managed to bring two positive results home. Despite Mugello was a completely new experience for everybody at Drivex, including Glenn, we proved to be rather competitive from the scratch.



It is very encouraging because we continue making excellent progress together. In fact, Glenn was the first HWA-powered car in Race 2. We are sure there is much more to come this year and I feel confident for the Belgian venue at Spa-Francorchamps later this month.”
