David Price Racing (DPR) had hopes of a points finish this weekend at the team’s home GP2 race weekend in Silverstone, but with both cars retiring early today hopes are now pinned on tomorrow’s sprint race.

Andy Soucek was racing at the circuit for the first time and was enjoying the experience of this challenging track in the sessions leading up to today’s race.

He said of his first visit, "It’s a nice circuit. The first part is very quick, but I didn’t know it very well in practice, and it’s been quite tough for me to learn the track with so little time in that session, but in qualifying I did some better times." Of his short-lived race he explained, "Today, was just not my day. I just went to my starting position after the warm up lap, pressed the clutch and the car stalled, because the clutch had overheated. I then had to start from the pit lane and the guys tried to solve the problem, at least getting it into first gear, although the temperature was still high. I got away but then I had an engine problem and my day was finished."

A similar fate for Christian Bakkerud added to DPR’s woes. After clean practice and qualifying sessions, the 22 year old Dane lined up on the 11th row of the grid. He made a strong start as the field got off the line, passing four cars through the first section, but by the end of the lap his clutch was slipping and he was forced to pit. Despite the team’s best efforts they were unable to solve the problem and Bakkerud had no option but to retire.

"I made a fantastic start, taking four guys at the first corner, but when I got to the back straight I could feel my clutch going and pitted but we just couldn’t do anything. Coming into this weekend I felt really confident and thought we could have had a good result here.

One of the guys I passed went on to finish seventh and with the reversed grid rule in GP2 he’ll start on the front row tomorrow, so who knows what could have happened. Meanwhile I’ll be starting on the last row of the grid with my team mate. It’s a bit hard to take in at the moment but I’m sure we’ll be back on form again."

David Price, Team Principal, summed up by saying, "It was a tough day for us. We don’t know the cause of our problems so we have some work to do this evening to get to the bottom of them, but I know everyone will pull together, put this behind us and push hard tomorrow."

The second of the two GP2 races supporting the British Formula 1 Grand Prix takes place at 9 am tomorrow morning.
