Chevrolet Motorsport Danmark : Hot hot hot

The sun was bright and clear sending track temperature up to 55 degrees centigrade. What the temperature reached in the cars is unknown but take it as a fact that it was hot. Actually so hot that the first sight for the drivers arriving to parc fermé was a bottle of chilled water – not a fata morgana but the real thing handed to them by helpers or ambulance crew to compensate for the dehydration during race.

As the red lights went out and started heat one Henrik managed to get past Thompson and take up second position in the race right behind Jan Magnussen. From this point it was merely a question to make the tyres last in case one of the pursuers should get close enough to launch an attack. Michael was caught in a small group fighting for their positions and did not manage to get past.

In the second heat the starting order was changed and Michael was in the front row.

Unfortunately he couldn’t keep his position and little by little he slipped down to seventh. Henrik was increasing the pressure from behind and fought his way up to fifth.

- I’m not satisfied with seventh but some reason I can’t get my car to go any faster, Michael told after the race.

For the final heat Henrik was in the second start row behind Magnussen and Thompson. A perfectly timed start allowed him to sweep past Thompson and take up the position in the wake of Magnussen. The situation didn’t facilitate an attack for the leading position but only for securing as much tarmac as possible between himself and the pursuers. The tactic was a success and Henrik to the chequered flag as second. Michael lost a position in the start but as the race stabilized he was not in a position to launch an attack or to come under attack. The main purpose was to get as many points as possible.

As a result of the races Michael is now fourth and Henrik is second in the drivers championship. In the team championship Chevrolet is maintaining the lead.

Next race is in three weeks at Padborg Park which calls for a lot of good memories from last season.
