The H24Racing 2021, the final rendezvous, a weekend’s racing at Portimão

The H24Racing team is taking part in their last weekend’s racing of the 2021 season during the final round of the European Le Mans Series in Portugal. Another essential test for the new H24 driven by Stéphane Richelmi..

This weekend, MissionH24 is back at the Portimão circuit in the south of Portugal to participate in the final round of the European Le Mans Series. On Friday and Saturday the new H24 will take to the track in the two free practice sessions for the Michelin Le Mans Cup.

Last month, the first outing of the H24 among the competitors in the MLMC on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit enabled H24Racing to see that its new electric-hydrogen racing prototype, still in the early stages of its performance development, had halved the gap which, in 2019 on the same track, separated the previous car the LMPH2G from the GT3s.

In Portimão, the H24 is going to meet very different track conditions and temperatures to those in the Belgian Ardennes. It’s an essential test in the process of accumulating experience which, for several months now, has pushed the H24Racing team to pit the H24 against the most varied circuit configurations and atmospheric conditions possible.

Stéphane Richelmi, one of the three MissionH24 performance development drivers with Norman Nato and Stoffel Vandoorne, will be behind the wheel of the H24 during this new weekend’s racing.

As was the case at Spa-Francorchamps five weeks ago, the H24 can refuel in hydrogen during the sessions thanks to the mobile station specially developed by TotalEnergies for the MissionH24 programme, which will be installed on the pit lane.

Jean-Michel Bouresche,
MissionH24’s operations manager, H24 Racing Team Principal

“It’s very important for us to run the new H24 on the greatest possible number of top-class circuits in the context of a weekend’s racing. These very demanding tracks and the tightly scheduled race meetings enable us to push the car to its limits and to pit it against real time constraints and challenges that are lacking in private testing. We came here to Portimao in 2019 with the LMPH2G.

Now we’re back with the H24 to measure the ground we’ve covered, test the engineering side of things and our organization and thus prepare for the 2022 season in which our aim is to take part in the greatest possible number of Michelin Le Mans Cup rounds in the context of the European Le Mans Series - and not just in free practice!”
