Thomas Biagi harvested another podium in Misano Adriatico's sixth round of the Superstars Series, valid both for the Italian and International Championships.
After the front row obtained in qualifying, the Italian driving for BMW Team Italy produced a solid race that saw him crossing the finish line with a precious third place at the end of a thrilling battle with Luca Rangoni (Mercedes) from lights to flag.
The reigning champion pushed hard also in race two where he was author of a good recovery after being pushed back to the sixth place in the heat of the start. During the last lap, while fighting for the podium. a contact with Andrea Bertolini (Maserati) caused by an oil spot on track forcd Biagi to give away some positions and to end the race only in eighteenth.
With three rounds to the end of the International Series , Biagi is fourth with 94 points, 24 shy the leader; he also occupies the same position in the Italian championship where the gap is of 13 points only.
Thomas Biagi:
"It has been a fairly positive weekend both in qualifying and race one; unfortunately, in race one I under-estimated the oil present in that sector and I un-voluntarily caused a contact that compromised the outcome of my race as well of that of Bertolini, to whom I want to send my apologies.
After the race, stewards decided to punish this episode penalyzing me by two positions on Spa's grid, a measure that will make my race even more difficult on a circuit not favouring our cars".
The Superstars Series will be back on track next 7 August in Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium).
