AS Roma scored a brace of fifth places at the Superleague Formula season finale in Jerez, Spain, yesterday. Franck Perera rounded off a strong season for the Italian squad, which finished fifth in the championship standings with 307 points.
The weekend got off to a good start for AS Roma, with Perera leading the team to the qualifying pole shoot-out against Liverpool's Adrian Valles. Valles snatched the pole, putting Perera alongside him on the front row for the rolling start of race one.
Liverpool led into the first corner from Roma at the start of the 45-minute race and Perera maintained second until lap five when Atletico Madrid overtook and put him back to third position. The team made its pitstop in the later stages on lap 13 and emerged in seventh position, but Perera made his way up to fifth by the chequered flag, helped by the retirement of leaders Liverpool in the closing stages.
The team did a fantastic job in the second 45-minute race after beginning from 14th position due to the reverse grid system. Perera dashed in for his pitstop on lap ten and by lap 17 was up to sixth in the standings. The team was up another spot by lap 25 and maintained position to the finish line.

"I am satisfied with the final races of the season, we got a good final result. We were consistently among the best in all the practice, qualifying sessions and races through the season. I want to give a special thanks to my team who worked hard until the end, and to the drivers, in particular to Franck, who gave us an extra boost in the last races. It's a shame we couldn't start the season together.": " I ave to thank Paolo Coloni, Enrico Zanarini and Giancarlo Fisichella who gave me the chance to race for AS Roma. Considering that we only started working together, without a testing programme, from the Portuguese round, I believe that a good job has been done by the whole team. I feel sorry for the Portugal race in which we nearly got the victory, but I can be happy that we were fighting with the best every time."
